paypal problem,how can this happen?

Got a email today from paypal and rapidshare saying i had bought a rapidshare 90 day€16.99 pass.

But i didnt buy this and contacted paypal who have set up a resolution between me and them.

Question i have is how did this happen and why would someone purchase a rapidshare account when there is no benefit to them as i was emailed the code under my hotmail addess.

I changed my password etc but how secure am i on paypal?
Should i contact my credit card company?

The only address i used yesterday was www.paypal.ie which became www.paypal.ie/ie.

Is this correct?

You should be pretty secure alright. Enough not to have to worry about crap like that.

You really should notify PayPal about this by phone.

but anyways...
i have just set up a paypal account and added my 3v card,
i dont have a credit card,
how long does it take me to recieve my paypal code to confirm the card and add the funds. this is freakin me out,
im gettin worried it wont work.
please help.

You don't need Paypal to confirm a 3V card with a credit card you can spend up to 750 before you need to confirm , Just added 3V number and code and buy/bid away on Ebay.

Back to your original question, I discovered on Monday 2 PAYPAL transactions on my credit card not authorised by me one of which is PAYPAL Rapidshare for 54.99. Neither of these transactions appear as tranaction activity on my Paypal account !!!!!

I contacted my credit card company immediately but they referred me to Paypal. I rang Paypal which directed me to an Indian call centre which is a whole other story but all they did is send me to their online resolution center. 2 days later still no open case for my issue .

Will recontact my credit card company to see if they can progress it further.

I believe from doing a search for Paypal Rapidshare that this may be a more widespread issue.

Is that card registered on your Paypal account? If it is, then there's no way the card can be used on someone else's account as Paypal don't allow the same card to be registered to more than one account. Check the full account history on Paypal, not just recent transactions. If it's not displayed there, then definitely contact the bank and don't let them refer you back to Paypal.

You should also have received a Paypal receipt in email when that transaction happened. Check for this too.

Yes this card is registered to my Paypal account

Transactions were in the last 30 days , I had done a year search on paypal in case I missed them ,still nothing.

Received no email receipt for these transactions .

Will contact credit card company again, very strange.

sounds fishey...

i use rapidshare personally and i know that when i pay for it myslef, they ask you to go to paypal through rapidshare, using your username and of course password...

meaning someone has/had the password for your paypal account... there is no other way they could have bought it...

did you log into your paypal on another computer other than your own.. i.e college/work/public wifi/internet cafe...

you could have run into a keylogger?

Well i knew after getting the email sent to my hotmail but why would someone get only 16.99 pass and i get t he email sent to me also from rapidshare with the pass code.
Only i would have benefited unless it was a random value to check accounts access.

I was using bittorent @' the time i accessed my paypal over weekend.i was using my own laptop which has been reformatted.

Wonder was there a loophole created?

CC company have frozen the 2 payments but they have to wait for response from Paypal before refunding the money.

The 1 thing I will be doing as a result of this is closing my Paypal account,10 business days to wait for reply!!!! 4 days after raising the issue with Paypal still no response absolutely unacceptable for a fraudulent transaction.

I only use 2 private PCs and I am the only user.
Also if they got my Paypal password these transactions should appear on my Paypal transaction history , but they do not. It certainly smells of fish

and paypal is not confirmed yet
and want to buy very soon...

Adding 3V to eBay won't help you buy anything, it's just for paying your fees with if you are a seller. You'll need Paypal (or an alternative) to pay for goods.
