Okay, at the moment I've been having a lot of problems and I'd really appreciate some advice.

I'm 18 years old and I haven't had my period in 8 months. I've had hormone tests and been to the doctor and they said there was nothing wrong with me and to just wait and it'll come back, but it's really worrying me.

I've also lost all interest in sex, which is depressing because I used to love it. My bf is trying really hard to be understanding, but it's making things difficult for us.

I've been over eating a lot lately and can't seem to control my thoughts about food.

I don't understand what's happening to me. I used to be really happy and healthy and now I feel like I've turned into someone else. My diet is generally quite healthy and I get regular exercise. I'd just like to get back to normal. I'm considering trying hypnotherapy and going to the chinese doctor, but I don't know how affective they are. Thanks!

I would say get a second and even third opinion if needs be. Your periods are unlikely to have just stopped for no reason. Second opinion.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

OP have you recently started or changed your form of contraception recently?

Could be a hormone inblance (despite what the docs are saying). As wibbs mentioned, get other opinions. Did you go to your local doctor or to a specialist?

Go to your doctor: referral to a specialist.

Yes, go and get a second opinion. Maybe go to a doctor who specializes in women's health like the Well Woman. If you are based in Dublin let me know and I can recommend a good clinic. It's important to get a proper diagnosis.

I just went to my local GP. The only reason they gave was because I was slightly underweight at the the start of the year, but my weights been back to normal for months now and there's no sign of anything happening. Do you need a referal to see a specialist?

Tell your dr you want a letter of referal about your lack of periods, get the letter and photo copy it and send it everywhere and wait and see what responses you get and what the waiting time is like.

Off the top of my head this abnormality in periods could be a sign of a few things.
It is definitely best to get a 2nd opinion.

:)mine havent stopped but they're ridiculously irregular, cycles ranging from 25 days to 48 days (and defo not pregnant)... doc took bloods, wants to check for Polycystic ovaries, thyroid probs (which could be connected to my weight and food probs), and a whole range of hormonal abnormalities... my advice, same as many above, go to the doc, they can set the ball rolling and start to help you ASAP!

Sometimes periods just stop. Mine did when I joined the gym, but even after I stopped going and put on a bit of weight they didn't come back.

I've had one in the last two years. A load of doctors and specialists and what not and they all agreed that sometimes these things just happen! I even ended up being a guinea pig for a couple of months in a study about it and there were loads of us, all with completely different lifestyles and medical histories.

If it puts your mind at rest, definitely go to the Well Woman centre. They will do all the blood tests, suggest that you get a bone density scan and tell you to eat lots of calcium.

I also lost my sex drive completely and that hasn't really returned either which is a major pain in the ass.
