Tekken is a 2009 live action film adaptation of the series. The film follows Jin Kazama played by John Foo in his quest to rid himself of the devil that plagues his soul. Now a man, he must confront his father Kazuya MishimaIan Anthony Dale and his grandfather Heihachi Mishima played by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. The film is being directed by Dwight Little and is set for a 2009 release date.

Anyone else as excited bout this as I am. Hope they do the series justice.

Did we learn nothing from Street Fighter the Movie? or the legion of game to film adaptation since?

    It'll disappoint, almost guaranteed.

Maybe this will break the rut. The actors seem quite fitted to the roles.

I doubt it will. They've made shams of games people care about. Less people care about this game than you might think. Even if it does have a story, games do not translate well onto film.

I think the audience is bigger than you give credit. I suppose time will tell, have to agree though Dead or Alive was a sham. Although the takashi miike moviewith the same name is a masterpiece...

It says on wiki that John Foo is half Irish but emigrated to London. Is this true?

Thanks. I actually made a mistake he is half Irish and half Chinese and was born in England. His middle name is Patrick aptly enough.

to be fair the tekken game do have a desent enough story line compared to other fighting games gone to films mentioned here like street fighter (bunch of people trying to defeat a gang of smugglers headed by M. Bison if memory serves me correctly) and dead or alive (was there a storyline in that game or was it just an excuse for someone to make a game where the womens tits bounced around?)

whereas each character in tekken is a bit more complicated a "selfish" reason to be in the tournament rather than the usual good vs evil lark:

Wow, two final bosses in computer/video games both played by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. Shang Tsung (Mortal Kombat - 1995) and Heihachi Mishima (2009) Brilliant stuff.

Ha ha ha ha ha haaa! :pac:

    Oh, you were serious?
Well, at least it's not as crap as Virtua Fighter's "story", which is like a bad mish-mash of Tekken & SF.

Incidentally, SFII was all about "being the best" really -- SFA then retconned it to being about M Bison taking over the world or some such nonsense.
But seriously, if you want good "story" in your fighting games, forget Sega, Namco, Tecmo or ArcSys -- SNK is where it's at!

I agree with this comment. Most fighting games have throw away stories and one dimensional characters. Tekken has some fairly interesting characters and the Mishima dynasty is interesting...sort of.
I wonder will Nina and Anna have Irish accents....

As for Mokujin, Gon and Jack...Well to be fair Gon only made one appearance as a novelty character and is considered non-canon. Mokujin is just there as an excuse to have a Dural-esque character(in terms of gameplay). As for Jack...Terminator two ending anyone?
