MFC71.dll - Riskware??

    Hi,

In the last day or two, after doing nothing out of the ordinary that I can think of, a pop-up appears on my screen every 10-15 seconds stating that

"The application has failed to start because MFC71.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"

I presume it is referring to the .exe listed in the title bar which is "bcmwltry.exe" - after googling that I discovered it is to do with a Broadcom Wireless utility - or is this a case of nasty cunning little risk/spyware??

Can I trust sites such as DLL-files to download a replacement file does anyone know??

    Cheers,
    Spud

P.S. I'm a recently graduated IT student braving the real world and always curious - any idea why this error would have happened?

Are you actually running the Broadcom Wireless Utility? If not it could be malware. I've used DLL-files a few times before and it's perfectly fine. However I'd first simply uninstall the current Broadcom drivers and get new ones from their website.

Lots of applications use that file, mainly multimedia applications. Check out the link! Just replace the file, it will be fine.
