    Hi Guys!

I am wondering can I have your opinions on something that has got me doing a lot of thinking lately.

I have never being in any way interested in psychic or paranormal subjects, never developing my opinion on the matter beyond - “Its a money racket” so after an even that happened last week I am more then a little interested in the process itself rather then the outcomes and financial flow.

Two weeks ago two friends of mine were trying to convince me to go to see a local fortune teller, and having nothing better to do on a Thursday eve I agreed.

It really wasn't what I had expected – the place was his home, modest by all means with a well kept garden with many religious items from many different faiths (a setting I thought that was a clever guise for the associations of “Spiritual practitioners” and all that sort of thing, but he did in passing refer to them as his own private solitary practice.

I went in first and ask was he the psychic, he answered that he wasn't, explaining that the word psychic came from the word psyche meaning mind and that a psychic was anyone that knew there own mind... and that he was still very much in the process of discovering the dynamics of his.

He went on to explain that he was a reader, someone regular guy that had taken the time and effort from a young age to research the tools and develop on them, learning there meanings etc and bit by bit people wanted to know what he had to share.

First he did my cards, making what he called a spread and going through them one by one explaining what each one meant individually and then in the spread itself, explaining the psychological association, traditional association, numerical and divinational (?) meaning it had.

There really wasn't much from from myself, apart from a question or two along the way – which was answered clearly (well I think it was).

Next he read the crystal ball, explaining it was like a an awake dream created by a light meditative trance that provided images that he could interpret and would see if they could be applied to my life.

After about 5 or so minutes told me he saw a “one eyed owl taking flight and flying east” asking what this meant I was told that an owl was an insightful bird that may reflect a long upcoming time of personal review and withdrawal into the self, the eye that was missing was the right – which he felt that my insight was dominated by others, the right behaviour and almost a total ignorance to my own self truth – which although didn't clash with the external focus it was never the less unorthodox by expected means and would certainly need a personal time to stir the tides of passion and assertive behaviour.

Taking flight and flying to the east was a sign of swift and unexpected movement to the east. Seeing as the east is/was/unsure of where these type of thing comes from ruled by Air and the mental it was for education or a focused learning experience (which is true.. if that matters?)

After the reading (about 40 mins) I asked how much – no cost. He didn't even didn't even want a donation preferring instead people bring him bread, food or a small inexpensive gift – as t couldn't cost or be about money and it was somewhat insulting to the process if it became like that.

He reminded me that he wasn't in any way psychic, well not at least as most people understood it – preferring that meaning was found by the people themselves or through synchronicity (which he felt was a spiritual principle in play).

So none of us paid but each promised to bring something next time we were passing by.
I am not sure if it was all a ploy of some sort as he seemed genuinely interested in sharing and caring recommended that we not return for at least 4 months – otherwise we would be ignoring the “self truth” that arose through the reading.

I have to say that I am deeply impressed – I have asked about and he is known for his style and code as a reader seeming very against trading in time/ experience for financial reward, although I did hear he was a astrologer for a local newspaper (of which I am sure he gets paid – but I can understand that, as after all it is a column) his also (well I cant verify) a trained counsellor but has an ordinary enough job.

Is it possible (call me a cynic) or even common use this potentially lucrative event for what seems to be a very genuine event – or is it another way to lure people into a situation etc

Psychic stuff aside I found it very revealing and helpful, as well as self empowering – which seems a far cry (even with my limited experience of it all) from the self promoting people out there.

I have decided not to use his name etc as I don't want this to be a publicity sort of thing (or the likes) as I am genuinely interested in what people have to say about the process and any opinions on the matter itself.

I hope I haven't bored anyone with the long explanation – I just have so very little to go by that I wanted to share what I had by memory and the notes I took as I left as I find the entire thing a bit unusual when faced with all this all knowing psychic silliness.

    Thanks for your patience x

    Kelly

My guess is that he genuinely believes in what he does (I can't prove that), but he could well be looking out for his business interests by doing the occasional free consultation thereby generating word of mouth. I get the impression that positive word of mouth is very important in the business. Nothing wrong with that in itself. It doesn't have a bearing one way or the other on the issue of paranormal activity happening, imo.

I tend not to believe that there's psychic ability involved in this sort of thing though I'm open to evidence to the contrary. There doesn't seem to be anything in your report that would be compelling evidence to be honest.

Thanks for the reply - it is appreciated :)

I think his genuine, much so in whats he does (regardless of the theory behind what it could mean).

Starting to think that if all these psychic people really are so spiritualy inclined - they might as well follow lead

I dont see the harm in taking this guy at face value. He sounds very sincere, based on the post here. He didnt charge, and you were happy with what he gave you. Whether you think he was psychic or a good counsellor or whatever, it left you feeling happy with the reading, which is a result either way. If he did happen to be using it as a loss leader to get more work is irrelevant to me, as you have a choice of whether to go back anyway.:)

Sounds to me like a very good situation and a change from the negative stories you often get about rip off readers.
