    http://www.photoshopuser.com/photowalk/city/dublin.html

    Limited to 50 people

    Frequently Asked Questions
    Q. What is a Photo Walk?
    A. It's a social photography event where photographers get together, usually in a downtown area or trendy section of town, to walk around, shoot photos, and generally have fun with other photographers.

    Q. What day is this special Worldwide Photo Walk?
    A. Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

    Q. How long does it last?
    A. Two hours, from start to finish.

    Q. When does it start?
    A. It starts at a different time in each city (the time is chosen by the Photo Walk leader in each city, and it posted on your "City Page" here on the site.

    Q. Where do we go on this walk?
    A. Your local walk leader chooses the starting place and the basic route you'll be following. They also choose an ending place (usually a local restaurant, pub, cafe, etc.) where you can wind down after the shoot, look at your photos from the day, and make new photography friends. At least, that's the plan.

    Q. Is there a fee to be part of this worldwide photo walk?
    A. Nope, it's totally free (well, if you buy food or drinks at the restaurant, that's on you, but there's no charge to be a part of the photo walk itself).

    Q. Is the number of people in each city limited?
    A. Yup. It's limited to just 50 people per city (If groups get much bigger, it gets really hard to manage; hard to find a restaurant to hold more people, it creates crowd control problems, etc.)

    Q. Do I have to sign up in advance?
    A. Yeah, you have to let us know you're going to a part of a particular city's event by using the registration form (found right here). Don't forget to choose your city from the pop-up menu.

    Q. Is there any training during the event?
    A. Not really---this is a social event, just for fun, but since you're working with a group of photographers you always wind up learning something from each other (at least, we do).

    Q. Do we have to stick together as one big group?
    A. Nope. Once the walk starts, you kind of move at your own pace, and we try to make the routes short enough so you have plenty of time for shooting and exploring along the way, and still get to the ending point on time.

    Q. Are there any prizes involved?
    A. You betcha! Since this Worldwide Photo Walk is to celebrate the release of the update of the world's bestselling Lightroom book (Scott Kelby's "Lightroom Book for Digital Photographers"), the best photo from the day (as chosen by your local walk leader) will win a copy of Scott's new book.

    Q. Where will these photos be posted for judging?
    A. We've set up a special flickr group for each city, so you can see the best shots from the other photo walkers in your area (and around the world).

    Q. Is there a Grand Prize?
    A. Oh man is there a grand prize!!!! Check out this mega prize package (awarded by Scott to the single best overall photo taken that day, from all the Photo Walk locations around the world. They are:

The Adobe CS3 Creative Suite Premium Package
    The New Adobe Lightroom 2
Two full conference passes to the Photoshop World Conference & Expo
The new Wacom 6x11 Widescreen Tablet
A $500 Gift Card for Purchases Online or in Store at B&H
From Mpix - Two 20"x30" Color Prints/Kodak Professional Portra Endura Paper
    From Peachpit - A $250 book bundle
    Q. How can I tell if there's a Photo Walk near me?
    A. Click on the Cities link above.

    Q. What if there isn't a Photo Walk planned for my city?
    A. You can apply to be a Photo Walk leader (you just have to have the qualifications, which are listed on this "Leader Registration Page"

    Q. How should I dress?
    A. Casual, and wear comfortable shoes because you'll be walking (Hey, it's a photo "walk," right?)

    Q. Anything else?
    A. Nope, just go and spend a great day, with some great people, who love making images just like you do. :)

I'll have to miss this. I had a good day off today.

Won 2 tickets to Lovebox Festival and was entered into a draw for an iPod touch too! So I'll be (hopefully) snapping Maximo Park, N*E*R*D and that other skinny singer lad.

I've got an e-mail from 7DayShop that my films are being shipped today. So it looks that I won't have enough films with me.
If there is somebody else interested in going instead of me, please, let me know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

I'll have some consumer Fuji 200 speed if you want some?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭ThOnda

If the offered price won't be Irish, I am interested :-)
However I still do hope that I'll get my films on time. Kodak Portra 400NC become my favorite film.

Update sent out about the walk:

Location – Unfortunately I have not been able to secure permission to photograph in the IFSC. Apparently it is private property and we require a permit and insurance. The cost of the permit is €250 and as of insurance... However, undaunted we will continue. As it happens the end point is also private property (Grand Canal Quay) but I have clearance with the DPDB.

Insurance and liability – This is your domain so neither the walk organizers, the DPDB or myself can accept any liability for loss or damage

Getting there – The Custom House is in the centre of the city just down from O'Connell Bridge. As parking is difficult I suggest you use public transport. Grand Canal Quay is also close to a Dart station and a 20 minute walk back to O'Connell Bridge.

Safety First! – Please be aware of your surroundings! There is real traffic on the other side of that lens and that they mustn’t get too distracted by what they are shooting to forget that.

Be Mindful of Your Gear – A large group of photographers can attract a lot of attention – some of it, not the good kind. Be mindful of their gear at all times. Again, just be aware of your surroundings!

Unregistered walkers – The enthusiasm for this event has been very high so do not be surprised if unregistered walkers arrive to join your group. We want to share this experience with everyone so please, invite unregistered walkers to join in on the fun! Just be sure they understand that, as last-minute participants, they are not eligible to submit their photos for the prize. Only walkers that pre-registered for your walk will have that access to upload photos.

Play nice – Remember folks, this is a social event - A time to meet with fellow photographers and maybe gain some new perspectives. Take the time to share your knowledge with others. If someone shows up with a disposable camera, don’t laugh. Instead, why not take them under your wing? And if police or security guards stop you from photographing a building or something (hey, it happens) just nod politely and move on. The name of this game is, “Keeping it Social.”

Remember, It’s a Photo Walk, Not a Photo Parade – A photo walk is supposed to be a social event. Participants are encouraged to move and mingle at their own pace. You do not have to stay together and move as a group! The only thing that should be done as a group is the very beginning and the very end. As long as everyone reconvenes at the final meeting place at the end, your walk will be a complete success!

What if it Rains? – Knowing Dublin and this summer – bring you wet gear

    After the Walk…

When we finish – I will let you know the name of the restaurant when we meet on Saturday.

Uploading your images –Remember: All walkers must upload their photos to your group’s Flickr Page by Midnight on Tuesday, August 26. if they want to be considered for both the city and grand prizes. Due to space allocation I suggest a number between 5 and 10 images.

… and lastly, BE SAFE! – We really cannot stress to you how important it is to impart a message of safety to all your walkers. Photo walks are meant to celebrate the spirit of photography in a fun and social setting. Nothing would dampen this notion faster than the knowledge that a fellow Photographer got more than he/she bargained for in the process. Let’s keep it fun and safe folks so we can do this again sometime.

If you have suggestions where to park my car close to the meeting point, please, let me know. And of course, there'll be one space in my car from/to Tallaght on Saturday.

    Public transport?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,381 ✭✭✭✭Paulw

Get the LUAS in from Tallaght and you're there. No worries about parking then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,445 ✭✭✭bovril

Remember the Luas stops at Abbey street these days. Busaras and Connelly are closed due to construction works.

Gotta pull out of this :( the newspapers want me to cover a cycling race and triathlon on Saturday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭ThOnda

Tallaght line of Luas will be closed including P&R at Mad Cow.
However the parking had been sorted (reward in phase of consideration), so transport there and back should be without problems. Even the carriage of boxes and books.
Only thing is the weather and if I get my films at least tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

    I have film for you V - Don't worry about that :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭ThOnda

One roll? That should keep me busy maximally five minutes. And I am not going to compare it to some other activities...
My films haven't arrived, so I would have to go for some higher ISOs and monochromatic films. However the forecast for tomorrow lunchtime is between mayhem and local flooding. I can't wait! :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

    4-6 rolls?

200 Iso, but feic it, it works - I've been pushing it. :p
