BT 3Mb broadband package issues?

    Hi all,

I am a BT broadband + phone customer on the 3Mb package (BT Broadband 3 package). For last few months I *never* get more than 1.73Mb download; in fact it is pretty consistent at or just below that figure, any time of day or night.

I was an Eircom customer and am using a Netopia 3347NWQ (Navy, 4 port, wireless support) and have seen speeds approaching 3Mb in the past (more than a few months ago). Interestingly my Netopia home page reports speed of 2048/256 (kbps). I can't remember if this ever reported anything different but assume it would say 3072/xxx if router was connected at 3Mb?

For these 2 reasons I believe I have been bumped from 3Mb down to 2Mb package. I logged a fault on line a few weeks back and it was promptly closed with no explanation! I've just logged another and await their response.

I used irishisptest.com and magnet.ie to get these figures of approx 1.7Mb download.

Am I being screwed or have I missed something? Have others experienced similar?

    thanks in advance,
    Ronan

The sync speed is the exact figure for the 2mb package- they have mistakenly downgraded you for some reason. If you are paying the hefty price for 3mb then ring them up and demand a refund for the months you didn't get 3mb. BT have a bad reputation for billing issues so make a record of every call you have with them and MAKE SURE they fix it by keeping close eye on all the bills you get.
