I have irishbroadband 3mb at the moment, which is great for downloading, no traffic shaping or limits that ive encountered...Just wondering if UPC shape the traffic in anyway or would i be able to reach anywere near 20mb downloads???Will be using internet for mostly downloading from work related servers which would max connection...

Anyone with any info???? is it worth switching???dya reckon irishbroadband will come out with similar package????

If you have the option of getting UPC 20mb then get it, there is simply no comparison between them and an eircom reseller like IBB.
UPC use a cable network rather than copper phone lines which means they can offer higher speeds so, no, IBB will not be coming out with a similar product anytime soon(unless you are living on an adsl2 exchange but eircom currently charge 169euro per month for only 12mb!) The max phone lines can go to is 24mb on adsl2+ whereas cable can technically support much higher speeds and UPC are likely to upgrade speeeds further in the future. Seriously, I don't know why you are hesitating in switching to UPC: no download cap, 20mb,cheaper, no line rental!

But does the OP have IBB DSL or Breeze? Someone posted excess of 10Mb speeds on Breeze a few weeks ago so they might be experimenting with higher speeds. Speculation only of course...

1year contract with irishbroadband is just finishing, had the 3mb wireless and am happy enough with it..but 20mb uncapped WOW the damage i could do with that, but i dont want to jump ship only to find out that they start limiting traffic the way alot of the english providers have done.....Has anyone been doing heavy downloading with this service?????what kinda speeds are you getting?????

You would imagine they would have to compete with this service or go out of business!

    Thanks for info!

Wireless is nowhere near as good as cable for pings and dl speeds.
To answer your question Gazz, I have not come across anyone on here being throttled by UPC after the upgrades. Their uncapped 20mb product is subject to a fair usage policy but that would only affect you if you were literally maxing out your connection 24/7 and downloading 500+GB a month. Most speedtest results from people on that package shows that they are getting as close to 20mb speeds as possible (19mb)
