Interesting article in the Observer about Pelecanos last Sunday, for anyone who doesn't know who he is, he co-scripted the Wire

You can read the article here

Pelecanos is one of the best crime-writers around. If you don't know him you owe to yourself to check him out!

I read King Suckerman a few years ago, but didn't rate the book to highly. I prefer James Ellroy TBH. Could you recommend a good Pelecanos book for me to try out? Wouldn't mind giving him another chance....especially after seeing The Wire.

The Night Gardener was the last Pelecanos book I read but Drama City is the one that stands out in my memory. It's a standalone so maybe try it. You could drop into the Nick Stefanos series either: A Firing Offense, Nick's Trip, and Down By the River Where the Dead Men Go.

Thanks Tristram. I'll check them out.

That's probably my favourite tbh, along with The Sweet Forever.
Not sure if it's worth pursuing if you weren't impressed.

I didn't think it ws a bad book or anything, just that the author was more interested in describing characters & their backstories, and painting the scenes than evolving the plot. I just felt the story was a little weak. I have no problem giving him another try though.
