Olympus x-785 problem

    Hi.
I have an Olympus x-785 (7.1 megapixel) a fairly basic but recent digital model.
I usually transfer my photos taken to pc by cable.
I recently lent the camera to my girlfriend and she said at some point the battery container at the bottom opened and the memory card ‘came out’.
    She lost some photos.
She then took some more and when I try to transfer them to PC it won’t let me.
(I can view the files but they have weird names with Japanese characters and the picture viewing program on the PC crashes).
I think the issue may be that they are saved to camera but not to memory card.
In the ‘Set Up’ menu on the camera, ‘Back Up’ is not available but “Format’ is.
But if I were to ‘format’ I would ‘erase all’.
Any ideas how I can save these photos to Memory Stick.
Perhaps the memory stick is inserted incorrectly or faulty or needs to be formatted.

    Thanks a lot

    Could you edit your post?

Try using a memory card reader.

Also there might be a setting in the menu like "usb communication mode" change this setting and if it doesn't work change it back.

Also take out the memory card link to pc and see if any pictures appear

If you can find them your card needs a format cos the japanese characters doesn't sound good
