    im 6' and 14 st. tryin to lose weight and put on muscle mass aswell. at the moment im doing a 20 minute jog at high intensity intervals followed by weights, then 10 minutes on the bike to warm down.

    should i be focusing more on cardio or weights in the gym? or should i alternate with one day cardio one day weights? was thinking of some supplements aswell, would whey protein be the best for my situation? any info much appreciated!!

    Whey protein is an absolute must if you want to gain lean muscle mass, as is an adequate diet.. e.g enough calories from the right sources, lean meats, healthy carbs and fats etc. Make sure you incorporate squats, deadlifts and bench into your weights routine. If you want to do cardio on the same day as weights training do weights first followed by cardio.

    IMO you should ignore this advice OP. It is not the correct line of thinking to follow because you can achieve your goal with or without supplementing your diet with whey protein.

    Your priority should be to focus on keeping your diet clean and evaluating your training to make sure it is as conjuicive to your goal as possible.

    If you could give a better indication of your typical days eating and what weights routine you follow more people might be able to help....

    CrossFit would suit your needs. Spend the time learning the movements and gradually increase the intensity. The site is a bit overwhelming at first, I'd suggest you download the free pdf on the site "What is Fitness?"

    All the workouts can be scaled down to your fitness level, by changing the distance/number of repetitions/weight used.

    I was half way thru writing a reply a while ago saying ignore the whey comment aswell but decided not to bother. Agree completely, whey protein is not a must and is useful for getting extra calories as a protein shake is easier to take when ur full than a meal and its handy after a training saession as it will digest quicker after normal food.

    If you are 14 st and 6 foot nothing than it sounds like you have no problem putting on weight. so make sure you eat the right stuff and eat more calories than you are expending
