Billy Graham retires

Hatton claims he is upset because Graham didnt give notice and would have loved to have him in his corner for his fight with Mallignaggi.

Graham says he was fired and would have loved to stick it out with Ricky till he retired, he was even willing to go through the injuries until such a time.

Wonder which is true and who will take charge of Training Hatton? I know they had a guy doing pads, is he up for it?

Please try and include some link or news clip when posting
    a thread of this nature

    Thanks

I think it's fairly obvious he was fired. Ricky's brother severed his ties with him a month or so ago. Hatton's been losing more and more respect in my eyes over the last few months

ah c'mon now lads what does a standup need a boxing trainer for:D

I was one who really rated Hatton highly and I have to admit, I got it wrong big time, and not just because he lost to PBF, who will always be a tough fight for Hatton, but because I simply overrated his ability. I didn't realise how
one dimensional he was. He has no outside game at all and his defense is his face.

I remember after the Castillo victory I was so impressed, yet PBF was at the bout and that is when he saw how easy Hatton would be and how one dimensional he was. I only saw the victory over a SHOT Castillo.

Graham IMO is not all that. I never rated his ability as a trainer. He's a bit of a mouth piece; and is he even from a boxing background?

The split was IMO not amicable or mutual. The tensions have been there for months now. I believe Hatton's father, Ray, despises Graham

All wikipedia says about Graham is that he was an amteur and professional boxer who trained fighters in his phoenix camp.It lists the decent fighters out of there but not much else.
Any idea's who Hatton has lined up instead of him.

i knew it was the end for him once he made those comment straight after the Mayweather fight. I admire Hatton for wanting to fight the best but he went down in my estimation after he started making excuses for his loss and didn't just acknowledge Mayweather was the better fighter.

I thought I read that somebody who is already in the camp will be taking over Graham position, there appears to have been a rift a while back so I agree that it isnt mutual decision in anyway. I can never understand when top quality boxers stick with their trainers when it is abvious they could be trained better somewhere else, in saying that Hatton was unbeaten until PBF!

In that case if he is one- dimensional why has he lost only one fight in his career. You can't say his record is padded.
Mayweather is so skillful he can make good fighters look limited. Hatton is still one of the best light-welterweights around.
Although, he might be in decline now, due to his style of fighting and his lifestyle in between fights, i still expect him to beat Malignaggi.

i think it was sentiment ruling over a smart business decision - Graham and Hatton were extremely close. when Hatton lost it was probably easier for his father, Ray, to persuade him to find another trainer. It's tough on Graham because he is just a scapegoat. Hatton would lose to Mayweather everytime no matter what trainer he had.

From watching Grahams training with hatton i never thought he was anything special, tactically he definetly was lacking, as far as ricky is concerned anyway.

Dont think it will make much difference to Ricky at this stage for 2 reasons, 1, age and time of carreer and 2, sticking with another 1 of his old coaches, nothing new to add.. he should of started afresh to see if he could change things..

He is one dimensional and a quality boxer with speed, stamina and a good body will beat him. He had nothing to offer in the PBF bout and even Lazcano had him in trouble numerous times. I think Paulie will TKO Hatton mid to late rds. Paulie is hard and can take a beating, as the Cotto loss proved. He is streets faster and is the better overall boxer.
    I can't see Hatton's style beating him

I still feel Hatton will beat Paulie!
still rate him as the best light welter at the moment..

If we are going on career achievements and historical reasoning, yes, I would pick
Hatton; but going on his performance V Lazcano, I will bet on Paulie. Hatton cannot replicate his peak, or close to it. He was very ordinary V Lazcano and showed that he can be hurt and wobbled badly. Paulie is a clean accurate and fast puncher and I feel he will be too fresh and slick for Hatton, who is IMO ring worn badly!

yes but what about paulie's last fight? he was rubbish.

I'm agreeing with the sentiment that Hatton looked way past his best against Lazcano. He'll need to seriously up his game to get past Malignaggi

I think Hatton still can raise his game to beat Paulie abd at least he hasnt had a chance to ballon up in weight, I think he will also be conscious of his loss to PBF and if he was to lose this one then his record would be somewhat tarnished, I would disagree that he is that banged up aswell. It really depends on how he approaches it, will be really looking forward to it though when it comes around. As a matter of interest can anybody vote on the polls or is this a competetion that started long ago?

    I agree.
Disregarding Hatton's ability because of his loss to PBF is harsh. As you say he is still one of the best light-welters around.
While he may have been lethargic against Lazcano, and showing signs of being less punch resistant than of old, i still think he has enough in the tank to beat Malignaggi! By the way when is this fight again?

Paulie didn't look great either in Manchester; but his opponent and that silly hair do
had a lot to do with it. Paulie's chin is sturdy, as is his body. He has lovely footwork and speed. He has the right ingredients to beat Hatton and is the overall better boxer,. To win, Paulie IMO just needs to survive the 12 rds
