Visited my third and last (for now) Michelin Star restaurant tonight, again tried to focus on the attention to detail that goes into putting together these stunning dishes.

Am going to pick 5 from each set (Mint, Bon Appetite and l'Ecrivain) for the peoples Photo expo so any suggestions welcome.

I think these are your best ones Fergus. First and third are really nice, just need a bit more dof on the third one.

Really great photos. Making me hungry now.

I agree about the 3rd image - some more blur would work well.

    Lovely shots.
Speaking as a man who practically lives in KFC, my praise is probably questionable, but I think they look amazing.
Only thing I think you should do is clone out the label(?) above the plate in the 3rd one. And maybe straighten it? To me it seems on a slight tilt to the left.
The first one is amazing. Any resturaunt would be happy with a picture like that on their menu, I would imagine.

    ...Especially KFC!

Thanks for the kind words, as for the cloning and straightening, dont really want to go down that route, the idea of the project was to take action pictures of the food being produced none of the shots were staged and all were of real food on the way to a table, does that make sense!

Very nice shots. I don't think there'd be any need for cloning or straightening myself but then i'm no expert! I do think the images are a little on the warm side though so I'd maybe slightly tweak the WB. But hey, a minor thing and just my own personal preference!

I was kinda looking for a pleasant way of putting what moosejam just said - so the first i don't like (i honestly had to look about 3 times to figure out exactly what was on a plate) - this may be warped minds but it's probably good to know if you are thinking of peeps photo for them.

#2 and #3 are quite nice with your focus on the detail. I don't know enough about what to expect if you were say, to give them back to the restaurants for marketing, but as a casual comment on #2 and the same for #3 is that you've ended up catching a lot of heavy and unflattering shadow. It's something like shooting macro's - the biggest problem at the exreme end of macro is staying out of the subjects light.

Also on #3 a tiny cloning exercise on the blob of cream / dressing at the back of the plate would work wonders.

I think some of the others that you previously posted may be better but still these are good.

    Cheers.

Nice shots. Not sure about the White Balance though.
If you shot in RAW, could you decrease the temp a little?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,459 ✭✭✭Dodgykeeper

    A turd is it! :D

I suppose it could be mistaken for one!

The shots were all taken on the Passe which is where the food is transferred between the Kitchen Staff (artists) and the Waiting Staff (plate carriers) there are very strong halogen lights here to keep the food warm, i have adjusted the temp in raw and will revisit to see if more tweaking would help.

The "blob of cream" is actually a small drop of the foam in mid air.

Thanks for your comments all constructive, first time I have ever been told a pic of mine looked like a pile of crap and smiled:D

Got a new fave in the set hope you dont mind if I post here

Ooooft! As a former "plate carrier" in a number of well respected places i am inclined to take offence to that one.

You try dealing with a large volume of snobby, picky, moany people on a nightly basis who look down on you as just another "plate carrier".

Watch what your eating next time you attend a fancy place....

    oooops forgot the :D

As I am former Chef I am sure you will appreciate the humour!
