Has anyone ever use them? Do they help when the calf is sore?

    Cheers

    Hi Saintoff,

I use the 2XU calf gaurds… Have tried the skins one’s too but definitely not as effective as 2Xu, who are mainly a Tri brand but the calf guards work great for running, also protecting shins.
I run 50-55 miles/week but while sitting at desk in work every day after a long run the evening before, the calves often seized up and got so tight. Even though my mind and rest of body was raring to go, the lower leg area felt so fatigued, tight and immobile. Since then, I wear either 2XU calf gaurds, flight socks (any chemist) or skins tights not just while running but most importantly post run, particularly when your stationary. EG: In bed at night and sitting at desk all day. These are the times for calf seize up and when the compression is most needed. Also, I wear my Nike Radcliffe long white compression socks for ALL races now too! After a shower post training/race, first thing I do is put on the compression again. The skins tights are good for wearing under trousers and in bed for post very long runs only… but these nights just too warm!
They make such a difference. The day’s I wear skirt/dress to office (hence no calf guards) can feel the difference the next day! How sad but reality when putting in the miles.

    Hope this helps!

So you only wear the calf gaurds after the runs?

I'm a girl and I won't wear them in a race, just as I won't wear an aero helmet, there are some boundaries I just won't cross.

I had my first experience of compression gear last night post run. I got home form 28km, had an ice bath and put them on while cooking dinner and slept in them and I have to say my legs are very fresh and loose today.

And did you use get sharp pains up your calf when you ran and just tight afterwards and maybe sore if enough pressure put on them?

    Thanks

no, just a bit tight, nothing that worried me but better without the tightness. I'm not doing big (for me) mileages at the moment though (triathlon season) maybe 60 km / week. I am however doing 14 sessions a week and about 20 hours training a week coming straight back off a serious illness so I'm trying to mind my body as much as I can.

Which ones did you go for in the end, HM? Skins?

Got a couple of sets. Mr HM is a skins devotee but I didn't like them. The 2XU are pretty good but I'm actually liking the cheap linebreak the best. They may not least because they were a good bit cheaper than the skins.

Where in Ireland did you get them?

The skins from John Buckley, the linebreak from wiggle and the 2xu directly from their uk shop.
