    Hi,

I have an old outhouse attached to the house that has a big roof overhanging it. I was looking at removing the overhang (overhang is attached to the house too). Is this a job you could do yourself with a few mates? just hire a conn-saw and chop it into small segments on the roof? Or should I be looking at getting the professionals in?

    thanks,
    J

Hey, sending on image of roof:

If I was getting people in to demolish it, who would I get? just regular builders, or concrete cutting specialists?

    thanks,
    J

What's the story? It looks like a bus drove through it.
    Is it falling down itself?

yea, it's not great. very old is all... The previous people had tried to demolish it with a sledge hammer, but gave up half way. It's still structuraly sound though, I think... Just looking to remove the overhang, to neaten it up a bit. Plan is eventually to demolish it completely and rebuild, but don't have the money for that at the moment...

So any suggestions on who I'd talk to about removing it? just a regular builder or some kind of specialist?

    thanks,
    J

You are right to give it a go.
Hire a good con-saw and a good chisle action / sds hammer action drill.
You will be surprised at the ease of removing it.
    Good luck:)

    Use appropiate safety gear!

yea, I'm just worried it'll take down a bit of the house too!! I've used a conn-saw before, so I'm not afraid of using it, but it's the fact it's high up as well. Do you reckon i'd need scafolding?

No Scaffolding needed as it seems less than 2400mm high.
    Tressels might be useful.
I understand you are only cutting the "overhang" off the conc. roof!
Should be easy to do, might be time consuming.

Cut concrete roof at house wall first. Hire a Con-saw.

You won't knock the main house down unless you use a JCB!:)

was thinking of doing it in small sections, about a foot wide. would that be the way to do it, or the whole thing in one big lump? and how to bring it all down when it's completely cut?

I'd cut it in small sections.
Start first cut along / beside wall of main dwelling.

You might need a good SDS drill, on chissel action, to break up conc.
The con-saw line will act as a visual guide and prevent cracks extending past the line.

It will be dusty and noisey but it will work.

Have you onsidered leaving a small overhang, to protect wall & door against rain? (Less roof to cut also!)

    Good luck
