Major gulf in class. They're just walking past them. Could be 3 or 4 for Kiev.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

Drogehda are making the gulf look bigger with really bad passing. We're talkign simple 5 or 10 yard passes just being made so slow a Kiev player walks onto it or just arsing it up altogether. You dont have to be a great player to do things simple.

    1-0 Kiev. soft goal.

    There's the breakthrough..

    1-0 Kiev

Should be 4 up but could have been 2-1 to Drogeda.

    Dodginess from the keeper.

Two minutes into the second half, goal for Drogheda.

Hughes header fumbled in by the keeper.

One question. Is it pronounced Deenamo or Die-namo? RTE reporter calling them Deenamo Kiev in the news today, only a little thing but get it right.

Love to see the Drogs advance, how much is left?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,661 ✭✭✭✭Helix

    Really enjoyable.

How have Kiev let them back into the game. I suspect they are just waiting for their home leg now at this stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,528 ✭✭✭✭dsmythy

hmph. Maybe not. No hope now. Good effort though.

Crap 2-1Kiev, great goal but pity for Drogs.

Fair play to Drogs keeper (and his legs):D
Great advertisment for the league, fantastic atmosphere despite the loss.
Feck, who o why have Roddy Collins on every time...

    Great game.

Unlucky for Drogheda but they can be proud of their display/

It could certainly have been more but not a bad performance from the 5th best side in Ireland against the second best in Ukraine .

Really tough task ahead of them now though .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,056 ✭✭✭applehunter

I hate this "they were all MOTM" from Morley.

We are past that at this stage. These guys are professional footballers.

How are the champions the 5th best team? If they climb a place at the weekend do they automatically become the 4th best? Are Man Utd the worst team in the PL if they lose on the first day?The standings are decided by the last available completed season. They are the best team in the country.

    Sorry to nitpick.

Agreed, they still have an amazing squad to choose from in EL terms. Doolin is not getting the best out of them.

Look tonight, they brought on Fabio, Barrett, and Shelly.

If City had those kind of options....:pac:

They did well in the 2nd half but Kiev were too classy. I would have preferred if Drogheda played with 2 up and used the wings.

Fair play to the Drogheda fans. Was a very good atmosphere. Did I hear "**** Russian Suburb, you're jsut a **** Russion suburb!":D

Drogheda are in 5th position half way through the season, that's a big difference from a team losing on the first day . IMO there's more chance of Drogheda dropping two more places than rising two more by the time the seasons finished . Would the best team in the country really be 15 points behind Bohs with the same amount of games played ?

They were the best team in the country last season, but last season was quite some time ago in LOI terms .

Question, where do you honestly think Drogheda will finish this season ?

    I reckon 5th btw .

Although Morley felt the whole team should get the Man of the Match award I was very impressed with Gartland.

He has a excellent 2nd half.

Thought Ewing was poor to be honest - you've got to worry when a keeper is saving so many shots with his legs. He was at fault for the two goals - mortal sin for a keeper to be beaten at his near post from 20 yards. Having said that, Kiev could easily have had a few more.

Now there, I agree. I don't understand the guy's attitude. Himself and Richardson are both saying before the game that a clean sheet would be a good result, as everyone knows. Then after losing 2-1, he turns around and criticizes the massive gulf in class between the two sides? No **** Roddy - they get 60 - 70,000 at their homes games and just signed one of the Croatian stars of Euro 2008 for €8 million, but Drogs should be well able for them .

The guy brings absolutely nothing to the discussion. I'm not mad about Richardson, but at least he attempts to analyse. Collins might as well be sitting there in a t-shirt that says "The EL is **** and will never amount to anything. It was way better when I was playing."
I hate this "they were all MOTM" from Morley.
Absolutely - there were some good performances and some bad ones. Keegan was poor, as was Zayed. Kudozovic was in-and-out, but I wouldn't have taken him off; he was the most creative outlet for Drogs. Byrne will never be a full-back (why the hell was he starting there when Shelley was fit?). However, Cahill did well. Gartland was superb. Richie Baker worked his socks off.

Drogs seem to have totally forgotten how to play football this season - they seem incapable of stringing more than five passes together. And their final ball was dreadful, a problem they've had all season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,056 ✭✭✭applehunter

Gartland will have attracted a lot of attention from England with that performance.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,163 ✭✭✭Slash/ED

I thought Keegan played well. Baker may work hard but he can't kick snow off a rope and you can usually count on one hand the amount of times he has possesion and a team mate is the next person to touch the ball in any given game, him and Zayed should have come off early. Thought Gartland was their best player and Cahill running at them was providing all kinds of trouble, Kendricks delivery was also very good from the full back positon. Very good performance considering the opposition. Great game too.

Ok where the **** was everyone? The Drogheda fans were amazing...brilliant...the Dyanmo Kyiv fans too in their own way(a lot of them weren't actually there to support Kiev, cause' when Drogheda scored a lot of them celebrated:D

I think probably about 20,000 people have any sort of care about football in this country. I would count someone who at least goes to a second round champions league game for a team from Ireland as actually being sort of a fan Watching the match on tv is good enough as well.

Theres over 1 million people in Dublin, and that stadium didn't get sold out. Poor, very poor.

Until you see Drogheda fans tonight, you don't know what its like to be a supporter.

That's a load of bollix estie.

I know what it's like to be a supporter.

I've been to european games in Dublin involving an Irish team with a bigger crowd than was at that last night. Supporting my OWN team.

I think that was a dig at Premiership supporters that don't support their own local teams?..possibly?

Just because a lot of non-drogs (like me) watched the game on TV (and wanted them to win), doesn't mean they're not real football fans.

Save your ire for those who deserve it.

Well done Drogs. You had a good go at them, and for a while had one of Europe's top teams seriously rattled. Pity about that soft goal at the end.

Let's not get carried away - Kiev were muck at the back and will get murdered in the group stages because of it. Hell, even the likes of Pats or Cork would have caused them quite a few more problems than Drogs did.

Bump. Second leg tonight (well teatime), a thrashing or a shock?

    2/3 nil is most likely.

It is to the benefit of each club in the league. Perhaps some clubs more than others but still, every club benefits.

1-0 Kiev. Dodgy goalkeeping. He really should have kept that out.

Too much of a gulf in class. A draw would be a superb result but there is no way I see any Eircom League team being capable of qualifying in this situation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,008 ✭✭✭delija_sever029

Its getting interesting,if they score 2nd get the hell in 11-0-0 formations and take penalties:D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,951 ✭✭✭DSB

Gartland looks so poor at this level. I don't think theres that much of a gulf in class. Moreso Kiev have more experience at this level.
