    Guys.

Im interested in buying Mark Rippetoe's book Starting Strength. I was just wondering if anybody knew of any irish book sites that sell it. Failing that is it on sale in bookshops in Dublin? I dont have a credit card(only a laser one) so unless I borrow a friends card I cant buy the book of the likes of Amazon etc.

If it is on sale in Dublin I could buy it at the weekend when I am down there.

    Cheers

    Gazzer.

Sorry for hijacking this thread somewhat but where's the best website to get the book from? The official website seems to be selling the 2nd edition, which is sub-titled 'Basic Barbell Training' - is this an updated version of the book or a follow-on that has a narrower focus?

    Its a brilliant book,

What else does the book have apart from giving the SS routine, demonstrating the lifts and telling the reader to drink loadsa milk??

I'm curious because a lot of people seem to be recommending it, but you could get the above advice off the net for free.

Isn't most the book covered in what he has on bb.com?

    This is the thread anyways:

    http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=998224

I was just wondering what else the book could have that would warrant a person shelling out €30??

Starting Strength: Basic Barbell Training is an updated version of the book, with about 100 more pages in it.

You can't get the same information off the web, as the info isn't as detailed. Nor is info off the internet as easily transported/reference-able while doing your workout.

Of course, if someone is really goona skimp on €30 for excellent exercise advice...

It gives a very detailed, easy to understand analysis of how to do the main lifts and why you should be doing them with a ton of pictures.

I guess you could find all the stuff on the net from different sources if you wanted to go looking but I personally find it much handier to have it all bound together and written by the same person.

EDIT: And on topic...I'd just use one of those 3V cards. Have used them before and they're dead handy!

I got it off Amazon - used the credit card! It only took a week to deliver too!

Only getting into reading it atm - still on the squats bit.

Had a download off the net but I just cant read off my laptop so decided to buy it instead - hopefully it will become a worthwhile investment too!! :D

There's really no info on the net that goes as in depth on how to coach the lifts as Starting Strength. It might just sound like a book on how to squat, bench, deadlift, press and powerclean, but it's DEFINATELY worth the money. Especially if you're trying to teach others how to do it.

    Gotta agree,

I am a novice and find the book excellent, even small things like the tape on wrists picture demonstration for the squat sunk in immediately, and without it I would of been doing it wrong,

There are lots more examples I'v found helpful, and I have only flicked through it for now,

I ordered these books off Amazon last month.
But I ordered two copies instead of one, my mistake! :o

If the OP or anyone wants the SS or Practical Programming I'll let them go half-price or we can work something out.

Suppose I'll go over to adverts.ie but might be able to sell them here

Well given the high recommendation this book is receiving here I've just ordered it. Oddly enough I had to go through amazon.com as amazon.co.uk didn't have it (the second edition anyway). Will let yea know how it goes.
