STD Check at Well Woman Clinic

    Hey, regular poster here.

Cant find information online but is it true the Well Woman Clinic in Ballsbridge does STD checks for men? How much does it cost? Is it any good there?

I've never been checked before and don't want to go to James so I'd rather pay there, and I work in Ballsbridge so its handy.

Also, is it possible to not have a HIV test but get tested for everything else? I want to do this and deal with anything else I may have and then go back for a HIV test. It might sound wierd, but its taken me ages to get the courage up to even get tested I'm just so freaked about it. Thanks

They will do a full screen with bloods and swabs regardless.

Marie stopes offer private and confidential testing as well.
Look at the sticky at the top of the page, there is a lot of information there.

Nah of course you won't. When I first got them done it was a GP & he said not to get a HIV test for some mortgage insurance reason. I was pretty relieved as I had your exact same train of thought regards HIV.

Thing is, the HIV worry won't go away after getting the all clear for the other stuff. And I'd imagine your worries would go through the roof if you ended up being positive for something like Chlamydia. I've since got blood tests & I wish I'd gotten it over with the first time.

I first got the STI test in drumcondra clinic, you won't need to make an appointment just go in between 5-7 monday-friday. If it's too out of the way ring a local GP & see if they do them.

Thanks a lot, that really helpful!

How much does it cost in the Drumcondra Clinic?

It's your blood - just tell them that you don't want a HIV test.

Why would a HIV test be off-putting? It's not like they do anything odd to you to draw your blood if they're doing one.

Why do you have something against getting tested for HIV OP?

I have nothing against it. I want to get one done too. Its just I want to do it in 2 stages, all the less major ones first, and if I have anything; deal with it and then the HIV test.

Well I was there for something else & he charged me an extra E20. However I'd been there regularly for a while & he perhaps just felt bad charging me so much!

It's a GP so there'll be the initial E50, then maybe put aside an extra 50-70 just in case. I'd advise going mon/wed or fri, they're the days Dr Ekky's usually in.

I'd imagine it's the fear of the results going the wrong way.

When i was pregnant they did a HIV test and i was terrified, even though i knew there was no chance. i guess its the fear that theres always a chance when you have unprotected sex even with a trusted partner.

A friend of mine was going to James' Clinic on Monday morning so I went along since I'd never had a test. It dragged out quite a bit, went in there at 7:30 and didn't get out till after one. If I was getting it done again I think I'd pay to have it done. I was twenty fourth in the queue at 7:30.

No offense, but this is just retarded.

^ This is not really helpful.

I just don't know what I'd do if I got a positive result. I'd never be able to cope. My life would be destroyed.

And ur life wouldnt be destroyed by not knowing?? How bout fact ur life wud be ten times shorter if u had it, didnt know n didnt get treated.

Or what about the lives u could destroy if u passed it on.

Dont be so stupid, just cuz u dont acknowledge it doesnt mean its going to go away.

So instead you're choosing to ignore it?

    Good call!

Is there any particular reason why you think you may have it? And if so, are you still sexually active?

Why do you assume I have it?

I never said I thought I may have caught it, I don't think I've done anything that makes me especially likely to have contracted it, but yoou never know. I just said that if I did manage to catch it, it would totally destroy my life. Other STDs wouldnt be such a problem, so if I had any, I'd rather deal with them before finding out if I have the big one.

    How old are you?

You have no reason to believe you have it but yet will hold off on getting tested ''just in case''.

Oh and other STD's, while not life threatening, can be pretty damn bad. You do know that some are incurable? Let's say for instance, you have herpes, something you will have for the rest of your life. Something you will have to tell every single partner about in the future. No more casual sex for you boyo!

Let's say you learn about this, and THEN you have to go back for a HIV test and be even more paranoid that you may have contracted it.

Just get it all done and deal with whatever may be there.

I've also heard of some false positive horror stories.

I can understand the fear. :)

While I accept the reasons why you think I should just go for it and get it done, who do you think you are? You're making me out to be someone whos has hundreds of partners. I never said I have a lot of casual sex.

    Calm down OP.

Look, i have been STI tested as a partner wanted to switch contraception methods, there is always a slight anxiousness.

But if you do the lot then you will have it all done and dusted.

The earlier a diagnosis of HIV positivitey is made the better TBH.

Its natural to think that OMG my life is over, but there are support groups that can help and you shuld be offered counselling.
I am not downplaying the seriousness of the infection by any means, in fact it should be highlighted more in my opinion as there is a lax policy.
But neither am I going to scaremonger.
The fact is the earlier a diagnosis is made treatment regimes can begin before symptoms show if necessary.
Leaving it or waiting until symptoms show greatly reduces longevity and health.

The fact is a test will tell you you have it or not. Not getting tested doesn't mean you dont have it.

    Really get the lot done.
