I think everyones been there at some point. It really depends on what is causing it and you didnt say much about that.

A visit to your GP cannot harm - they may advise meds, they may also advise therapy or councilling.

It maybe as simple as a small change of lifestyle - new hobby / nightclasses / new interests to get you through this.

Make an appointment with the doc anyway and even if you don't want meds you can fill the script if you still feel crap, maybe she could sort out some councilling for you, talking to someone should help:)

Things will start to look for you don't worry, you'll get through it:)

maybe try gettin some exercise and eating healthy for a few days - if u work take a couple of days of - relax and treat yourself.

If this doesn't help then resort to the doctor :-)

    Hope you feel better

Ok Sorry to hear yu're feeling down Do you know why? Has something happened? Would you see a counsellor before going on the meds?

Meds make things worse. You become dependant on them to give you a boost anytime you are down. We are human and as a human you need to be able to get through the bad times on your own. Anti-depressants and all that other nonsense will make it worse for you in the long run.

What you need to do is firstly address why you are feeling down. Lonely? No job? Bored? No friends? When you figure out what's wrong, then you can start working on how to correct it. Until then, none of us here can help you buddy.

Chin up. Don't feel sorry for yourself. That's a hole that's hard to get out of. Instead, do something productive and figure out what's wrong.

    Hi All,

    Thanks for the replies :-)

Yeah not to keen on meds...... but not too keen on spending 6 months feeling down.

I have some (untreated) mental illness in my family and know how easly it can ruin things.

I kinda promised myself, I'd never let it if happen to me because I want to get the best out of life :-)

Thanks for the helpful suggestions, excisrise etc. it's good advice :-)

Am trying to keep my routine together, some jogging and good food......but I feel it getting harder. Trying not to let it show too much.

Just don't want to loss another 6 months.........wish I could snap out of this :-(

Just keep looking after yourself and surrounding yourself with people you can talk to and you may feel better over time. I've been there too and tried meds before but really it was a few factors in my life that were upsetting me and dealing with them helped me get through the rough patch I was in. That isn't to say you shouldn't try the meds but you give the impression you're not too keen on them so maybe you should try a more cognitive approach first off.
I still say boards really helped me too because I could offload without worrying what others thought.
    Best of luck.

    Bluebits,
Sorry to hear you are feeling down.

Don't be too quick to dismiss meds. They do have a place in treating some conditions.

After all, if you had an infection you would not hesitate to use an antibiotic, so why not medicine for an illness of the non physical nature?

There have been huge advances in the field of medicine for mental illnesses - many are not addictive and can be of enormous benefit if used wisely.

You should certainly talk to your doc.

Overuse of antibiotics weakens the immune system. You just have to look at the outbreak of staph in the US to confirm this. In the same respect, overuse of medicine to get over mental-depression makes you weak at mind. Relying on medicine for depression will make everything worse in the long run. I have no idea why people are so quick to tell people to take antidepressents. May aswell tell them to grab a bottle of vodka and sing their blues away

Oh I agree! Over use of any mediciation is most unwise.

The wise use of medicines for mental illness can be of enormous benefit and ought not to be discouraged in all cases.

I disagree with the use of alcohol as an alternative to prescribed medicines taken under medical supervision and careful monitoring.
