Can you access the internet through other programs? i.e mcafee?

Check your LAN settings in IE. Tools -> Options -> Connection, LAN Settings. Set it to Automatically Detect unless you have something other than the bog standard interent setup!

    Is the page timing out?

ok first thing i would check is in internet explorer click file -> and make sure "work offline" is not selected. if it is selected it wont load pages from the internet it will try and load it from the computers page history.

next is to make sure you actually have internet access. you may be connected to your local network but not the actual internet.

easiest way to check will be to try and ping google.com

start -> run -> type 'cmd.exe' press ok.

    in here type 'ping google.com'

if you get a reply then your on the internet if not then your not.
