I'm sure lots of people have been to Sydney and will naturally differ on some things I will report on but feel free to correct me!
I spend 4 nights in Sydney, due to it being winter. I stayed in Wake Up Hostel which is lovely but tad expensive for hostel but very clean and plush, had great nights sleep and shared room with lovely people, all from UK.
You could walk most places in Sydney and feel totally safe, its like SIngapore where you could walk and walk and feel at home. The city is lovely and full of life, make sure you see Darling Harbour and Circular Quay, along with the Rock.
I went to a show in the Opera House which was lovely but also do the tour, its a once in a lifetime opportunity so don't be penny pinching. It is an amazing sight and I had to see it everyday. The bridge is right next to it and the walk up high is expensive enough and chose not to do it as had enough adventure things done already in Oz but you can walk across the bridge normally, theres a lovely village called Kirribilli on the other side, nice cafes etc.
Visit the Rocks (fancy name for small area), lovely restaurants.
Botanical gardens are a must, located beside the opera house, beautiful and again free!
i took a day trip to the Blue Mountains with Oz Experience and would highly recommend it, brilliant spot and you see brilliant rock formations and some kangaroos.
Take a ferry to Manly or Bondi/COogee, lovely few hours out and the ferry ride is worth it alone (its like our bus service).
Overall, Sydney is amazing city, its got the buildings of New York, cleanliness of Singapore and life of Dublin. Brilliant place!
