Standard country roads (beaten down tarmac), like the Connemarathon, I believe.. Will drive the marathon route this weekend (and run some of it), so will have a better idea after the weekend.

The half marathon route is an out and back course. You do a lap of the town and then run in the hard shoulder from Longford to the town of Tarmonbarry and back. I liked it and did a really good time here 2 years ago in prep for Dublin. Free refreshments after the race which is nice. You might have to queue for the shower though but don't let that stop you.
Overall a nice and friendly race in Longford.
Will be doing the half again this year myself.

There is a new course this year for the half.
    Taken from the website

NEWS - NEW COURSE ANNOUNCED FOR LONGFORD HALF-MARATHON.

Following feedback from previous years, this years Half Marathon Course has been changed. The new course will start and finish at the same location as previous years on Ballymahon Street. As before there will be a lap of the town, then left onto Killashee street, out the Killashee road as far as Clonterim, where it will turn right and head across to the Strokestown Road. Left onto the Strokestown road and out as far as Flancare park, where it will turn right and head to Newtown-forbes and then back into Longford, down the Battery Road and finish on Ballymahon Street.

As the poster above says, there is a new course this year, but I imagine the roads now being run on will be similar to previous years. I don't think it is harder on the legs than say the roads in the phoenix park !

It's very flat around Longford and the old course while being a bit boring was very fast. I hammered my half marathon pb here last time I ran it. Going to give it a blast this year also. I would definitely recommend it.

I'm half thinking of doing this now too, have missed a good bit of training with the shin splints the past few week but seem to be over them now, once i get this last 2 mile race done tonight , i can get back to my mileage. I was upto 9-10 mile 3 weeks ago, Do you think its too late to to manager the half in longford? I was aiming for the ne in the park but will be away with work for 2 week prior to that and only get back late the night before.

If your up to 10-11 miles 2 weeks before hand , You will be grand, Id say. Also for the week leading up to it just do 2 short runs no more then 5 miles. Your legs will be so fresh on the day. Today is last day to sign up for €40. Price goes up at midnight tonight
