I carry my golf bag around and i often wonder do i need all the clubs i have with me. I take a driver, 3, 5, 7 wood 3-9 irons a PW, SW and LW and a putter. I play off of 21 so I'm pretty poor. I like my driver and my lob wedge but dont use the rest of my clubs regularly in every round. Any opinions on what I should leave in the boot of the car? I was thinking i could leave a 3,4,5 and 9 iron after me as well as the 5 wood.

Is that leaving too many clubs out?

Well firstly, if your playing in competitions your carrying 15 clubs at the moment and thats against the rules.

Personally I'd drop the 7W, but I pull a cart, so its not much of a strain

its all down to what you use and hit well like personally i only carry 8clubs + play off 10, id definetly drop the 7 wood + 3 n 4 iron, like you know what you hit well.

to be honest i was hoping to carry the 7W to replace the long irons that I dont seem to ever hit well. I was contemplating leaving the 5W out of the bag along with the 3,4 and 5 irons. Do you think I need the SW as well as a 58' Vokey? I was half thinking I could use the Vokey if I ever ended up in a bunker instead of the SW?

    I would recommend:

    Driver
3/5 Wood (You might not use them often so only bring one for the moment)
    7 Wood.
    5-9 Iron
    PW, SW and LW.
    Putter.

That should keep you going for a while.

Ah the 5 iron comes in very very handy a good bit of the time for me so I would deffo leave it in.

i'm trying to think of my home course and what clubs i would use so maybe that would help me with choosing which clubs to leave out

A couple of suggestions on this:

    - Take out the 3 and 4 irons as the 7 wood will be able to replace these and is a lot easier to hit. Very few golfers carry 3 irons anymore.

    - Your sandwedge probably has a loft of 56 degrees. As the lob wedge is 58 degrees I'd leave it out. The sandwedge should have a lot more bounce which will help you in most situations, especially when playing on softer courses. It will also benefit you to play most of your shots around the green with the one club.

    - Definitely keep the 5 iron as by taking this out you will have a gap in terms of distance. The idea is that your clubs cover all distances from a certain length out so that you don't have to be forcing a 6 iron or trying to hit an easy 4 iron.
