Hi, my adapter for my G4 powerbook (bought 2004) sizzled and burnt out at the weekend, I got a new battery when they did the recall there a while back wonder had that anything to do with it?

Before this happened it only worked if the cable was in a certain position if you know what I mean, anyway its gone now made sparks and everything. would anyone know where to best get a replacement? Cheap as poss would be best at the mo.

Talk to apple about it. You may be able to wrangle a free replacement if you're lucky, quote laws pertaining to merchantable quality and all that.Although by the sound of it, the damage may have been caused by wear and tear, in which case your best bet is probably ebay

I bought a PowerBook adaptor in the 3G store beside Maplins in Blanch a few months ago for 29.95 in a bargain basket. May be worth checking if it's still there. By the way it wasn't a genuine Apple part - no nice LED around the plug to inform when fully charged but does the job nicely !!

Cheers for the advice lads ill try Maplins. I know what you mean Sean but its def a case of wear and tear, it all started when the one of the two clips which you can flick up to wrap the cable around broke off and I was just wrapping the cable around it anyway made bits of the cable right where it goes into the power block! Anyway learned me lesson there.

    cheers guys.

They sell them on Amazon.co.uk for about £20. A girl in the office got one a few months back.

i bought a macbook charger off eBay a month ago and it blew last week, wasnt even a chinese knock off! so it may be best to stump up for a new one somewhere if you are thinking bout eBay! at least you may get a guarantee with it!!!

Apple power adapters are known for their design flaws resulting in all sorts of craziness such as overheating, melting, shoring out and giving a small firework display.

In reality it depends on what you use your machine for - If your putting demands on the processor your directly putting demands on the power supply etc.
