I'm at the begining of the process of a limited company setup. Does anyone know if a Garda can act as a witness to declarations on form A1?

No. A Garda cannot witness the declaration of compliance. It can only be one of the following:

    Practising Solicitor
    Notary Public
    Peace Commissioner
    Commissioner for Oaths

FYI - A solicitor cannot charge you more than €10 to witness this document. Make sure to being i.d. if you are not known to the solicitor.

Why don't you consider buying a company off the shelf. It only costs about €500 - you just change the objects clause, the name of the company, and contact details. Have a look at the following - tis quick and easy (I did this when I started my company a while ago - though I have just deregistered because it was too much hassle!) These are places where you can purchase a company that is already registered and the ' group' will change the necessary clauses for you:

    http://www.company-formations-ireland.com/irish-limited-company.html
http://www.companysetup.ie/companyformation/formacompany.htm - this group appears to charge just €300 haven't used them myself so don't know how good they are.

    Good luck!

I've used formit.ie for a couple of clients who set up limited companies recently and would recommend their services - €299 for a basic set up
