Fare Well, ye Irish

Well after a few mitigating issues over the last year (and a half) - Stepmom dying, father moving back to the US, and me having a near miss with the Gardai and failing 3 out of 6 of my 2nd year college classes, as well as a weak American dollar - I won't be coming back to Ireland this time.

    Sucks.

Anyway my Dad no longer feels it wise to invest in me living here because of the risks, of cost, accomodation, living alone and immigration, etc. but I can't blame him for that, especially when my grades reflect I'm struggling.

So I'll be living with him in South Carlolina and at the very least taking a year out to get a driver's license, hold a job and work on saving enough money for College: The Revenge. Which suffice to say will not be held in Ireland when it happens.

When I do come back it will be to help clean up and sell our home in Clare and say farewells to my teenage chums: but we have no timeline for when that will happen.

    Just a vent post :(

Not a PI. Damn Yanks! :p

Jus' kidding, best of luck over there whatever you turn your hand to...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,729 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

It is a PI! jerk :p

you'd be upset too if you thought you had just been told to throw away 2 years of college for naught. 3 if you count 6th year.

Overheal calling someone a jerk is personal abuse and you can be baned for that if you have an issue with a post use the report post function.

Is there any way you can transfer the credits for the modules you have done to some where in the usa ?

Hey dude, sorry to hear this.... You must be disappointed

Argh well do lurk around though ;)

No afaik they are completely seperate accrediting bodies, meaning theres no system in place to equate the amount of work I have done to the credit system over here, its not like having a 2 year diploma - those are more transferable. Unfortunately the course I was in was a 4 year degree or nothing.

Ah sure MIN boards wouldn't be rid of me that easily. Its a definite kick in the gee but I'll eat my own words from other PI's and try and keep my head high.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Out of interest where in south Carolina are you going to live? Anywhere near Savannah or St simmons/Mac Kinnon Island?

Good luck with it mate. It seems like a good plan longterm if things aren't working out here. In any case the interweb really does make boston the next parish. :)

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Best of luck overheal. I know you've had a hard time or two and I think you've been very positive through it all.

Best of luck in America and definitely go back to college if you can!

That really really really sucks man.
You know AFAIK, if you do a distance learning course with the open university or some such while you are looking for that job and learning to drive, etc. you will get creditted with points for the two years that you did.
Its not full time college but it is a stepping stone at least.

That'd be something to look into but since im not even flying back to repeat the 3 exams I need I dont see how likely that is. in any case I've robbed all the course materials I still have access to (suck it blackboard!) so with or without a piece of paper ive learned stuff.

With a swanky 15mbit connection, I think that might be do-able... whenever the Irish servers speed up enough for me to pick them up :D I think the ping back to yours is still 500ms or something stupid - not playable anyway. but leave me a profile comment with the IP address anyway.

Thanks Watna thats nice to hear :) theres an interesting university in florida called Full Sail that promises a 4 year degree (same degree i was at) in 2 years: its expensive as hell and the hours are intense but thats what I'll be aiming for, and their credentials seem hawt: http://www.fullsail.com
