I received my 1st year college results(UCD) and found out I have failed one subject.
I need to repeat at the end of august, and with my new summer job being pretty much 9-5,
    I find I can't concentrate when I come home from a 2 hour commute.
Weekends are almost always reserved for catching up on sleep.

I did fairly well in the other subjects(55-89 range between other ones)
but a very lousy 26 in the one I failed. I really want to continue the
course i am in and pass the subject I failed.

Should I mention this to my employer, as I would imagine it would be frowned on.
Is it possible to defer exams to Christmas???????
Or should I Just abandon the job and try to focus because time is running out !!!
    Thanks for any advice.

See if you can reduce your hours/days at work.

    Hey there,

I'm in UCD too. Congrats on the good scores in the rest of your subjects. :)

You only failed one subject and while it may seem devastating now, it can be easily fixed. It would be best to quit your job if you don't really need it. If you can't get by without working (most of us can't) then you deffo need to ask for your hours to be cut.

I worked all through the year just gone and not only did it affect my grades in the first semester, I also ended up really sick. I was completely worn out. I had to cut my hours in work and even though I had practically no money and was just about paying my rent, I did much, much better in my second semester. Working really threatens how well you perform in college. I understand exactly where you're coming from but you really have to make the most of your time. If you can't cut your hours get up at 9 or 10am on Sat and Sun and go into UCD to study. It will pay off and you'll deffo pass the exam second time around.

You're nearly there, chin up. :)

This is a big ass cop out if ever i heard one... Fair enough you work full time, but you still have a couple of hours in the evenings mid week. Plus is you have a two hour commute then what's stopping you catching up on some reading on the bus/train (I'm assuming the long commute is due to public transport).

Your weekends are reserved for sleep? Even if you sleep in for a couple of hours you still have the whole day to study on both saturday and sunday.

Fair enough if you want to quit your job, go ahead. But you still have plenty of spare hours in the week to do your work, you just don't want to.
