The Fingal Vintage Society are hosting their annual Vintage show in Rathmooney, Lusk in North County Dublin tomorrow.
This show usually attracts a good selection of classic cars, trucks, tractors etc.

The ground was mucky last year due to the awful weather we had but I was talking to one of the organisers a short time ago and he said the field is bone dry.

Yeah this is a super show, different to the rest as it has a funfair type atmosphere with old steam engines and tractor pulling.

I'll be there with the family, they love this event, unfortunately I missed the road run today though !

I might head tomorrow as a spectator, I'll see how I am anyway (provided I don't have too bad of a hangover ;))

Well this was an excellent show yesterday. The weather was incredible as were the cars. a lot of cars I'd never seen before, some rare stuff, lots of unique and well displayed cars.

There was an unreal amount of vintage tractors, literally hundreds, not really interested myself but it was hard not to be impressed.

Also there was a huge amount of commercials, some original Irish company owned, some restored some awaiting.

There was tractor pulling, steam engines, corn cutting, baling etc all done by traditional methods. One field had horse drawn machinery, in the lane beside there were steam engines, then vintage tractors.

It was really a very very good day out for all the family, and everyone I talked to said so too !

would have liked to have gone but had my head stuck behind a caliper.....

a family member tried to go as a spectator but apparantly there was a mile long queue to get in so they didn't bother.

I went to the show and there was a lot of stuff on display. I have an interes in tractors and machinery - along with cars and commercials - so plenty for me to view.

It was after 4pm by the time we got parked...there was a 2-3 mile tailback to get into the parking field! Overall it was a good show ...though they could do with more/better signage to the event in future?! (There was no sign to show you where to turn off the M1 ...the official road signs dont point to the turnoff for Lusk for some reason?!).

Did anybody see the restored (Commer?) ESB van ? I just saw it being driven away in the distance. Anybody got a pic of it??

Sounds like a show that the transport museum in Howth hit, seeing as it's local. I've never been to the Fingal show, but if the transport museum were ever to pull out their stock of commercials for everyone to see out in the open, a day like yesterday would have been the day.

Does anybody know if they display at shows anywhere? They have some nice genuine Irish built buses they need to show off more.

I had a hot bulb engine there powering a corn crusher -beside the thrasher .
As the lads were threshing i was getting barley off them and crushing it .

The Transport Museum Society, Howth had two vehicles on display at the recent Terenure show, one being the first ever Bedford School Bus (Yellow) to be built.

I found some pics of the Fingal show on www.mymarque.com Not sure if that ESB van is in there though. Great show by the way, weather made it, although it took an age to get in the car park.

    Thanks Mercmad :)

I was surprised how well it went down .
There were people of all ages asking qeustions all day and i was delighted to talk to them .

Stationary engines at rallies normally just tick over and people haven't a clue what they were for at all :p
Its the first time i actually 'worked' one of my engines and its much better craic than having them just running .

I've attached a pic for anyone that wants a look at my engine and my late grandfather's corn crusher

    John ;)

I visited the Dorset Steam fair a few years ago - the site is enormous (traffic jams are even worse!!). To put it in context, there were 3 large carparks and 3 entrances to the show! Tractors, farm and other machinery, demonstrations (I saw steam road rolling including stone breaking demo), funfair, autojumble, cars, bikes, and whatever else they can fit into one large large field! Takes one full day and lots of energy to properly see it all! But it's some sight, I can tell you!

Check out their website on www.gdsf.co.uk
Nearest airport is Bournemouth, flights from Dublin with Ryanair.

Dorset is far and away the biggest show in Britain, and probably the widest range of 'stuff' (commercial vehicles, military vehicles, steam, steam fairground, organs, showman's wagons, oil/stationary engines, tractors, classics, demonstrations, military re-enactments). It's definitely the Glastonbury of the 'old stuff in a field' scene.

There's bigger/better shows for some of the niches - but this would be the biggest mixed bag show.

Well - for stationary engines there's the 1000 engine show in Astle Park, Chelford.

Classic cars have the Beaulieu Autojumble and the NEC show.

There's the Gaydon show in Warwickshire for classic commercials.

The military gear nuts have a big bash called War and Peace in Kent.

The Malpas Yesteryear show in Cheshire is on after Dorset - usually a great show, with lots of tractors.
