Editing challenge?

Apologies if this is the wrong place, but while reading this thread I thought it might be interesting for those who have just started playing with post processing to run a small challenge. Someone posts a random picture that could do with a bit of work, and each person then does some work on it and people vote for the best improvements. Each person entering would keep note of the changes they made to share with others (e.g. cropped left hand side, adjusted brightness to +5, etc.). Apologies again if this has already been done.

Well, stuff not unlike this has been done before...I am pretty sure that two or three people have posted pictures for reworking, although not so formal that everyone said exactly what they did.

I'm prepared to provide a picture if people are interested.

    I'd be into it too!

Would the user who hosts the normal competitions be willing to host this as well, or is that pushing his generosity too far?

Rather than annoying Darren about this, someone couild just stick up a picture here and anyione can then download it to work on. They can then upload their processed version with their comments etc. This was done here before with a picture of the little church in Gouganbarra.

We need a sepate thread with the original file(and what need to be done to it.And an image only submiiting post so it wont get clogged up with chat then when the dead line comes up the original make of the post can make a poll for voting

So is there any particular type of image you guys want to work on, people / landscape / exposure problems / sports? I wouldnt mind submitting a shot if we know what we want!

A building - any type, i think that might work, as pp'ong on architecture shots can be so varied, many routes (compared with say macro, where a true to life or vinrant pic is universal enough)

Christchurch maybe? I have a few of that, do we want correct exposure or under or over?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,344 ✭✭✭Thoie

I think generic architecture, don't tell us what's wrong, and let everyone do their own thing to see how many different pics we end up with? Christchurch is fine as most people have an idea what it looks like from various places.

Nothing wrong with Christchurch, but ideally, i think a more random shot would be better.
As in a building that most of us never seen or shot. Then again, its hard to plan a random shot ;)

just make it clear and big as possible anything at all really do you want a picture of a round tower? I'll drive out to Rattoo and take one right now if you want to.... /overenthusiasm
    :)

ok I have a couple I'll upload them. They were taken a good while back when I was just learning so they are not perfect which is probably better. I'll upload say 3 and then we can decide which one or if we want sheesh to get a round tower.

Don't worry I wont be insulted if you want to use something else. These pics were whilst learning different settings. They have not been touched AT ALL (i dont think) and scream learner!

    picture.php?albumid=121&pictureid=462

    what i did
    lab conversion using this tutorial
then applied an unsharp mask of 1 pixel and 50%

I then cloned out the wires I was afraid that if i did it before hand it would show up in the unsharp

then i applied a vignette by selection a rectangular area with 60 px feather, inverting the selection so that it selects the area outside the initial selection
I used the output level to darken this area not the 'Input levels' as there were white borders around the trees when i did that
