They are two different markets and uses I think. The 12.1" is a full size ultraportable laptop, whereas the Wind/4211 is more geared for being a netbook, and as a backup or ultraportable addition to your already existing home dekstop, or "main laptop" I think.

E.g., the Atom CPU in the Wind is very good (the best) for a netbook, but will be signfiicantly behind the Core 2 Duo in the 12.1". Grpahics in the 4211/Wind is the GMA950, but the GMA965 in the 4401. Last thing to consider then is the keyboard size: if you are planning on doing a lot of typing and it will be your main computer, I would say the 12.1" is better (depends on how big your fingers are though I suppose!). Actually then like you said, one will have integrated DVD - the Wind will need to use external DVD drives if you want to install anything from media, adding to the expense a little.

Mite go for the one with dvd drive..Its annoying that they dont stick drives in some of the smaller ones..Who wants the hassle of having to carry a seperate one around!!

True. There is another option you may not know about in the Kohjinsha series. The SH8 model has a built in DVD/CD writer, and there is a new model coming out in a few weeks called the SX3, which will have 8.9" touch & flip screen (can do tablet format with handwriting recognition), and pretty much the same as the Advent 4211/Wind and the others. Problem is that it'll be expensive; when I specced one up at Conics.net it comes to aroudn €900, excl. importation taxes from Japan.

Vye sell the SH8 rebranded here, as the 41B I think. Same story: format is like MiniNote, Eee or Wind/4211 but the touch screen and flip adds to the cost so it is around €800-900.

Depends on how much you want to spend really. How much is the 12.1" Advent? The only one I can think of that 12.1" sector is the HP 2200tz (I think that is the name, it has a flip screen/touch screen) but is around €1000.

I got one of these with about the same specs for over twice that price last year. No regrets. Great laptop. Well worth even if it comes with a few scratches at that price. Great development and gaming machine in my own opinion. Only downside is vista only support from Dell now. THey took the XP drivers down from the site. XP and Ubuntu work fine on it.

Usually McAffe. Uninstall asap. Rubbish and you have to subscribe for updates to it.

    Free Anti-virus

    Use AVG

    http://free.avg.com/

    Or Avast

    http://www.avast.com/

As for office use open office. Otherwise its a few hundred euros for office. You probably get word and works pre-installed with this laptop.
