That sounds like a well spec'ed machine..

What make is the RAM and powesupply??

Will you need the 1TB storage from the word go? If you wont only buy 500gb now and then when you need the second 500GB drive it will cost a lot less or you might get a 750GB or 1TB for the same price..Thats what I chose to do when building my machine a few months back..

its the last pc on the below link

You maybe right in relation to storage may just go for the 500gb

Also you would be able to get a cheaper second hand copy of
    windows xp from adverts.ie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,785 ✭✭✭Irish Gunner

Have Xp installed on current desktop and laptop dont think I can use these or can I have cd?

If not can get a copy elsewhere cough cough....

    May put in order today

seems fairly over priced to me. www.komplett.ie do much cheaper deals for the same or better spec. Same with ankermann.

Would you be opposed to building your own computer?

It's not really that hard..lots of help available online.

You could price the parts on komplett.ie and hardwareversand.de

I'm sure you would get this computer for a bit less then maybe.

When I built my computer I didn't get one part of it in Ireland.

    Just a thaugh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,785 ✭✭✭Irish Gunner

Not to keen on building it myself and did check out Komplett & co

Have dealt with marx and they were ok and have a face fronting shop so easier to deal with

Now I would love to be able to build my own but basically just a bit lazy and would probably f it up

How much would I be saving?

Go with Ankermann, great site and terrific service.

I have bought 2 pc's off them before, as have many others on this site.Build quality for the prices they sell at is excellent, I got a really nice 8800gt pc off them last year for a friend and its dead quiet and all the components are of good quality.Power supply it shipped with wasnt a known brand, but it was quality and had no trouble powering, very fast 9800gx2,Q6700 even though it was only rated 500watt.

I would either go Hardwareversand and spec up a pc ( best value ) or go with Ankermann, nothing beats them for value and service imo.Overclockers uk have ok prices these days with the weak sterling, but build quality with them is rushed and flimsy.

This one from Ankermann is better, graphics card is way faster ( basically top end, can max out every game ) and cpu is brill.

Seller is a really nice guy, he will add in OS, monitor, whatever you want for a good price.

A friend of mine ordered above one on my recommendation on tuesday. He like you didnt want any hassle.

How does the spec on the Ankermann Pc compare to that of the one on Marx

Not good at distinguishing between 2 pc's and all the specs

    Cheers

Graphics card is like 2.5 times faster if not more. Its latest tech going for €250, while one in marx is €80 card at best.

Rest of the pc is very similar, with cpu in Ankermann being faster.

Overall its a way better gaming pc and much cheaper.

Wont be doing any gaming online with it leave that to Ps3 etc

just want enough memory and cpu power for downloading and saving movies and music. Dont want vista will stick with windows xp

Will keep current hard drive as external driver

So I am looking for the best but at a reasonable price....don't we all

Its more then the basic I am looking for something thats wont slow me down

    So any suggestions welcome

If you dont want to game that changes everything.

Something zippy and quite is what you want, those graphics card in the pc's you/we have linked are all much too loud for general use imo.

    What about Dell?

So without the gaming aspect, a good Dell PC even with Core2Duo with 3Gb or RAM and a 320Gb HDD is plently as it's only used for downloading and movies/music. Save the money and maybe if you want to look into later getting a bigger monitor (HDMI) or Blu-Ray DVD drive. (Not sure what currently have)

Was thinking of Dell but dont they load up all PC's with Vista and I dont want Vista

Dont want a keyboard mouse speakers or monitor

Do they just do Harddrives and one with plenty of power and memory ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 674 ✭✭✭jonny72

    http://www.ankermann-pc.com

    choose OFFERS INTEL

two PC's there perfect for you, the two topmost pc's, 329 and 449 euros respectively

(all the ones below them are generally older PC's at that 'old' prices, so don't look at them)

All you have to do is get windows XP from them + pay delivery

The only thing is you might want to add a wifi card, will still work out at about half the price of that Marx PC, for the same performance or better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,785 ✭✭✭Irish Gunner

Ankermann looks good how long do they normally take to deliver

    So which is better

items below is the €449 one the best whats the difference between this and those at the higher prices taking into account what I require?

    http://www.ankermann-pc.com/en/

    Or this one

    http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=150273729795&Category=3736&_trksid=p3907.m29

All that I require is a wifi card windows xp and a dvd / cd burner drive

Think I have cut it down to these 2

    Opinions please

You can get a Dell with XP. You can also ring them if the option to remove the monitor and keyboard is not online. But in fairness, they will ship it with a keyboard because the cost of one is so smal.

As to which Ankermann is better.

The €659 is a Quad Core(4x2.66Ghz) versus the €449 for a Core2 Duo (2x3.0Ghz). But the RAM in the €449 is still 4Gb and the HDD is big at 750Gb SATAII, DVD/RW w/Lightscribe, with a damn good Gfx. As you are not using the PC for gaming the €449 seems pretty good to me.....

Has anyone got any experience with Ankermann ?

Did a google and could not see anything other than whats on their ebay store

Whats their delivery and after customer service like ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 833 ✭✭✭batman2000

I have never dealt with them so I can't comment. other's comments have been positive. But if you are uneasy just buy the Dell.....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 674 ✭✭✭jonny72

They seem to have a good rep, keep in mind they are german which helps..

My friend ordered a PC and it arrived on time, well packaged etc.

If I was you, I'd email them, ask them to install XP on the PC for a small extra free.. try it.. it would give you the peace of mind that if they've installed the OS and that the PC is definitely working.

If you couldn't be bothered with the worry.. go for the Dell, also try their outlet site, theres a dell XPS 420 for 640 euro total (+vat, +delivery, -discount)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,785 ✭✭✭Irish Gunner

whats the url of the dell outlet

what about the below from marx

MS Tech ATX Case - 40eruo

    Total - 816euro inc VAT

Take out xp pro go for home and maybe increase space to 750

Or just stick with Dell for peace of mind what is their url & in comparison to the above whats it like ?

would like Ankermann but just wary if something buggered up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 833 ✭✭✭batman2000

So Irish Gunner.....The difference in PC that you are mentioning is Marx €816, Ankerman Core2Duo€449. Ankerman QuadCore €659, Dell QuadCore €567 (Incl Del)....

The Marx PC is more expensive and is not mush different in Spec (for what you need the PC for) compared to the Dell. You can get the Dell with XP, you know they deliver generally with no problems, you know Dell have a Tech Support (not saying it's fantastic, but they have it none the less).

The Dell Outlet had PC's like the XPS420, but prices are Ex VAT and Del.
    http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/default.aspx?c=ie&l=en&s=dfh&~ck=betafrbsd
    http://outlet.dell.com/Emea_Dfo/EuDispatcher?country=IRL&target=InventoryPage&lob_constraint=DIM

Outlet : €518 plus VAT and Del,
    Inclusive of VAT+Del: Approx €676
    XPS 420 (System Identifier. F50620HD)
    XPS 420 Viiv E6550 Core 2 Duo 2.33GHz
    2GB Dual Channel DDR2 667MHz
    320GB HD
    256MB ATI Radeon 3650
    DVD+/-RW (ReadWrite) 16X
    19-in-1 Bluetooth Media Card Reader

So go and buy a new Dell as in Squall20 post (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=56691868&postcount=16)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,785 ✭✭✭Irish Gunner

Ankermann PC is fine, make sure you get the ENGLISH windows XP.

Just wanna compare Marx with hardwareversand..

    AMD Athlon 6000+ CPU - 144euro (91 euro)
    Asus M3N-HD/HDMI Mother board - 134euro (93 euro)
    2GB DDR2 800 Memory(2x 1GB) - 60euro (30 euro)
    620W PSU - 68euro (47 euro)
    Radeon HD3450 Graphic (entry card) - 56euro (29 euro)
    XP Pro - 170euro (100 )
    500GB Sata HDD - 80euro (50 euro)
    W/Lan PCI 54m - 25euro (15 euro)
    Lite On DVD-RW +/- Sata - 39euro (25 euro)
MS Tech ATX Case - 40eruo (30 euro)

In brackets are the hardwareversand prices (some not there so they are equivalents)..

    Marx = Total - 816euro inc VAT
    Hardwareversand = 510 + 20 build + 30 delivery = Total - 560

I really have a grudge against highstreet PC shops, just went into one today, 8500GT graphics card, nearly 150 euros. Thats 3 times the online price. I've seen PC's advertised in the window for 999 euros that I could build online for 400.. I mean the shop itself could buy the PC online and still make a 100% profit.. they make no effort, I have no sympathy for them, I would never buy that Marx PC, total ripoff.

I dont think it is, if it was a performance pc you couldnt get off the like's of Dell without breaking the bank, then the potential hassle involved would be worth it.

But you can get the pc your getting off Dell with much less potential hassle ( pc goes wrong have to send into germany ) for the same price.

I don’t want Vista as don’t have the firewalls anti virus programs for this also want built in Wireless card

Also I want a 750 Hard Drive and when I went to do another spec it came up more expensive than Ankermann. May ring them again and see what they can do

Yes I know about returning it to Germany and that’s my only concern

If you have an XP disc you can install that, Dell pc's come with drivers and can be downloaded at there site if they dont.

Security wise Vista is more secure than Xp imo and when you have the hardware its a much better experience. You can get plenty of decent anti virus programs/firewalls etc for free that work great on Vista.I am using Comodo firewall paired with Avast antivirus and Spybot.

You can get a 750gb hard drive off dabs for €77.

Dont want to assemble this myself would rather have it assembled first

Rang Dell and with wireless card and 640gb hard drive it was coming in at over €800

Dont want Vista as read to many bad things about it and want to hold off.

AS I have said before, Vista is not bad. Those bad things that were going around were mainly lat year when Vista was launched with people not been able to install drivers for the peripherals. Now with Vista SP1, and most manufacfures have device drivers for Vista, I think not going with Vista is a step backwards.

You also seem to be installing a number of similar AV/Firewall's. Don't forget the Vista firewall is actually good. The XP is also grand. Your router will also probably have a NAT firewall too.

I have been humming and hawing over Vista and will I will I not get it

Thinking I am getting swayed the way to get it I have XP on laptop so if worse came to worse can work other applications on this

Still swaying to the Ankermann pc but they are not the quickest in coming back which has bothered me a bit

Ok going for Vista but whats the difference between 32 bit and 64 bit version?

From googling it seems 32 bit is the standard as some software not compatible with the 64 bit?

32bit can only use around 3.25GBs ram total. 64bit can use a lot more.

Thanks for that but is most software compatible to the 64bit and would it be worth it taking in spec from Ankermann to get the 64bit ?

    Re the below

    NVidia GeForce 8600GT 1024MB

As per the below there has been issue with this

    http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/08/12/nvidia-g92s-g94-reportedly

So bit cautious ordering now from them

If you plan on gaming don't bother with that card it's pretty crap (ignore the 1GB it's a marketing gimmick). Most software would work fine on vista 64bit.

OP, I bought a slightly better spec from hardwareversand.de for about €300 less!

Do this crowd assemble them or is it order and its a DIY job ?

If you did buy a similar spec what are the details?

Yeah if you throw them an extra 20 sheets they'll assemble it.

    The spec I got was:

    Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4ghz
    4gb Corsair PC6400 RAM
XFX nVidia 8800GT 512mb video card
XFX nVidia 680i SLI LT motherboard
    Onboard 7.1 channel RealTek audio
Onboard LAN (good, but can't remember details)
    320GB HDD - can't remember brand offhand
DVD Burner - entry level...not much choice there anyway
Antec Nine Hundred Case with 5 fans including a 200mm top fan
    650w Super Flower PSU
Windows Vista 32bit Home Premium (big mistake!)

Came to around €900 I think, so around 200 cheaper. Just noticed you got a second HDD drive at 93 quid, so I suppose that accounts for a bit.

Ahhh, it seems that in my haste to reply I overlooked most of the posts! I just took a look at the spec in the OP, and the price, and went looking for the reply button as quickly as I could, thinking, "I gotta tell this man about hardwareversand!" :o

That pc is insane for the price, the gfx card alone will set u back about 250quid online, Im actually probs going to pick one of these up myself.

Can anyone tell me whats the C.O.D policy on anker and how long do they normally take to deliver...also do all the drivers for the hardware come when you order the computer, or do you have to source them out on the net yourself.
Not that it would be a problem as most of them are new pieces of hardware.

Actually think im going to go with the http://www.ankermann-pc.com/en/
Feel the 9800gtx is more than enough to run source/wow/1.6 at a constant 100fps in 1024 actually probs get over 200 :D

And i'd rather have a nice case to go with it
