Discontinuing my Favourite Things!!!!!

    I'm very upset

I've got really sensitive skin and always found shaving agony until I stumbled across Johnson's Hair Minimising Lotion which i now use before and after shaving. My skin is now like that of a different person altogether - smooth as a baby's. The gel had a really weird waxy consistency which was an excellent moisturiser for me. Also, I've always had quite heavy hair growth, but after using this stuff for a couple of years and then trying to grow my hair for a holiday wax I realised it had seriously reduced my hair re-growth and density too.

So, I go to stock up y.day and I find that it's been discontinued!!!!! Tesco were selling off their last few bottles at a fifth of their price so i stocked up on a few but once they're gone, that's it!!! I'm so p*ssed off :( If i've ever been somewhere I can't get it before I've tried all sorts of alternatives that don't work HALF as well, and I'm straight back to red burning skin after a shave. Can't seem to find anything else with the same kind of waxy texture that really soaks the skin.

This isn't the first product I've fallen in love with to have it removed from the market. It's happened before with mascaras, leave in conditioners and even my pill!!!! (I spent over a year and four different pills trying to find the right one and 6 months after I do I'm told they're discontinuing it as it doean't sell enough!!!!)

Sorry, needed to rant! Anyone else had experience of their favourite things being discontinued?????

Sometimes it's only in Ireland that it's discontinued, you may still be able to purchase it online.

i lost my favorite shampoo a while ago, and i've still not recovered :(
i used Original Source Lime and Guarana, it was so amazing! i have trouble finding shampoo that i like and can use for ages, usually i have to change after a while, but this was the shampoo for me! be glad you got to stock up on your stuff, i got no warning, it just disappeared from the shelf one day, i eventually asked the boots lady and she said she thought it was discontinued, emailed the company and they comfirmed the news. this was a year ago and i've still not found a shampoo to replace it... so i feel your pain :(

Sometimes if enough people complain about a certain product been pulled from the stores they bring it back. They did that with Lancome's Nutrix cream.

Bite the bullet and get an epilator and a good exfoliating mitt. Same effect, and you'll only have to do it maybe every 10 days.

Tesco are discontinuing lots of stuff, I imagine it is to fit in more ranges.
You might well still be able to get the cream elsewhere.

I've searched everywhere and no one seems to have it. I think it's actually Johnson's who are no longer making it.

With regard to them rethinking it, I don't know anyone else who uses it and I think if they decided to discontinue in the first place sales probably aren't great, so chances are there wouldn't be enough people to ask for it back :(

Question about the epilator - do you have to wait for the hairs to become reasonably long again each time you need to use it, like waxing?? I'm REALLY bad at letting the hairs grow, I can't stand having hairy legs, I usually shave every shower. if I could get one for very short hairs I'd consider it though.

No, the one I have can get rid of really short stubble!
In fact if you let the hair grow any more than a few mm it gets quite sore. I won't lie to you, it is quite sore the first 2-3 times you epilate but the hair grows back really fine and I honestly don't even notice anything when I epilate now. The trick is to pull the skin taut before you pass the epilator over. I have a braun silk-epil xelle

btw just noticed Boots Botanics have a hair minimising lotion. Don't know if it's any good though.

Cheers, methinks an epilator may be the way to go so. Thanks for giving me the heads up on the boots hair minimising lotion. I've used a couple of types over the years and for some reason whatever is in them seems to really soothe my skin but I find them hard to find!!! Cheers :)

you know that always seems to happen to food things i like? where did the cocunut moro go, ok i know that was only limited edition but it does happen with other stuff

    Coconut Moro, yiuck!

Anyway, I digress, Pookie, I would think shaving every day is a bit excessive. Maybe if you only shaved every 2-3 days your skin may not be as sensitive?

Have you tried emailing Johnson customer care? They should be able to tell you if it is definitely discontinued.:)

Re: the shaving - most girls I know can get away with that no problem. I used to live with some girls who always bitched about shaving and it being such a nuisance etc and when I questioned them they only had to shave once a wk/fortnight to have fairly smooth legs!!!

I don't work like that I'm afraid, need to shave almost daily (or at least every second day) to feel smooth and be able to wear a skirt. Stubble is a big no no for me in shorts/skirt.

Thanks for the tip about the e-mail though I might try that :-)

Tesco are discontinuing a lot of products I use to and it's so annoying! Think they're making way for their own brand products

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 848 ✭✭✭Dinxminx

I had one of those epilator things. Tried to use it and it hurt like a b*tch* so stuck with the shaving!

    *Yes I'm a weenie.

there is a new product called it makes pure sense and it is suppose to be amazing.

it costs 12 euro and lasts for ages its a shaving oil which is much better than the foemas or gels you should try this.
