Got a magenta cast on the ps3 while watching a DVD. Should I start backing stuff up or is this common ?

What sort of video cable connects your PS3 to your TV? Is it in good shape, properly connected? Is your TV a CRT or an LCD? How old is it?

Its a hdmi cable connection to tv (panny plasma),monster 300. It happened for about 10 seconds and I rewound to check if it was the disc and it didn't happen again.

I'm worried that it's the graphics output chip ,which is really annoying if it just breaks.

It sounds to be either the graphics chip or the TV. Since the cable is HDMI, it seems unlikely that you'd get partial signal rather than just a total loss of picture. If that cable ever does fail on you, for the love of God don't waste your money on a Monster again.

Don't worry ,not a snowballs chance in hell of that.:o

I knew I was been ripped off ,but I collected the tv myself and I needed a cable.
Now that you mention the cable failing though ,the monster cable is actually looser than my other hdmi cables. Maybe it's just the cable ,thanks for the replies:)

EDIT: Just googled through a good few pages ,found that some devices that have loose hdmi ports ,have magenta casts. Maybe if the cable is not completely secure ,it weakens the output chip somehow.

That is interesting... I'd always imagined that a loose HDMI connection would mean a perfect picture or none at all.

My HDMI cable recently seems to have failed, I get blocks of static/fizz across the screen and fiddling with the hdmi changes the blocks of fizz.
Can anyone suggest a good make to go with...connecting a PS3 to a panny tv.
    Appreciate the advice :)

Just buy a cheap one, so long as it isn't obviously flimsy it should do you grand unless you plan to move your PS3 or TV around a lot.
