Maybe something along the lines of - If you back the favourite in any handicap and it is beaten by a horse drawn in the outside 4-5 stalls, then you get your money back??

Money refunded in your horse is a faller:D
    I'd back there;)

Money back if horse is winning over the last and fails to win the race?
Money back if horse is 2nd to favourite.(preety favourites have poor record in galway)

Money back if your second to a Dermot Weld winner ;)

PP introduced placepot betting on Irish meetings at last year's festival and stuck with it after that. Don't know when the others started doing it or even if they do.

Maybe introducing the jackpot (ie races 3,4,5 and 6 rather than the whole card version they do on UK meetings)?? I often do this on Irish meetings for small stakes, usually with 36 perms and it's a pain in the hole writing out the names of all the horses and searching for prices. A lotto-style slip with Tote returns would be nice.

PS Am I the only one who thinks Galway is ****e. The racing, rather than the twon. Bog standard racing in my opinion

You're not the only one.Apart from a handful of races the quality is very poor.Lots of low grade handicaps that would be of no interest if they were not on at Galway.I always feel it's more of a drinking fesival with the racing almost being a sideshow.Still I guess it depends on what you are interested in but for me this week is always about Goodwood with one eye on Galway Wednesday and Thursday and half an eye for the rest of the week.

:oGalway Races are fantastic - I go down every year for it. Crowds on Wednesday / Thursday are mad hectic but have started going on Friday for the last few years & there is a lovely atmosphere there. Did a heart charity - Croi - thing on the top floor of the new stand last year on the Friday & had a great day. Luxury treatment shuttle to the racecourse, drinks on arrival lots of wine with dinner & music for a while when the races were over. Left it well on it & got off the bus in town after so it was a long day but great crack. The charity have had to half the ticket price this year cos of the recession but still have the same deal on offer so well worth the price.

:) Thanks Downser. I checked out the packages over race week. Got a great offer for the Saturday of Race week. Only 75 euros each for entrance, access to the new stand with a table for the day and a four course lunch. Great offer can't believe it

Haha! That's one've the funniest interactions I've seen in ages.

I think I'd have to side with rarnes1 on this one.

    Hi all,

If anyone is still looking for accommodation for race week, my dad has a 3 bedroom house available in Ballybane during race week and for August. PM me or you could reply to his ad on www.daft.ie/610893. It's only a 2 minute drive from Ballybrit!

His rates are negotiable and he would like to rent for a week but would consider letting for 3 days or so....

    :D
