    Mixed card over there last night. What do you think of these? Not the sharpest in the box I'll admit :( but I think I got some of the timing right for a change!

    2 is bang on, pity as you say about the sharpness. I can be a bit hit and miss as your timing can be on but the Horse jumping can be off.

    What do you mean by off?

    Also, what kind of speed should I be looking at to get the sharpness right? I think I was shooting around the 640 or 800 mark at about 100mm focal on a Sigma 70-300 APO. I was hand holding. Any suggestions on what I could do?

    oof = out of focus
    Your shutter speed was fine it seems you ometimes focused on the barrier behind the jump.Set it to predictive af(al-servo) and try and follow th horse up to the jumps if at all possible and then as he goes to jump hold the button down makes sure its set to burst and try to keep the horse on you af point

    If I managed to get motorbikes in focus panning with 1/125.. I think you can afford to give a little on the speed :) atleast if you're panning. If these are just straight on shots...eh..

    Ata boy, well done. You've gotten the timing right. Far superior shots than the last race ;)

    1,3 & 5 are the favourites. 5 has that something special, but for the action shots 1 & 3 are great !! Keep up the good work

    Much better shots than your previous attempts. It now seems you're actually planning on what you want before you shoot.

    I must try this. Cheers. I did in fact focus on the railing behind the jump and then waited for the horse to jump then fired! I find it difficult to focus and then shoot together as the lens is a little slow and won't co-coperate all the time.
