Emergency: Corrupt memory card

    Hi,

Just back from taking shots for a paid job and when I turned my camera on, (Canon 30D), I got an Err CF error and there were no images on the card . I tried using recvua software to read the card, but it can't read the boot sector. Is there anything I can do to get these back? I'm assuming that if I format the card, all images will be gone. The client needs the pictures for this evening...

    Thanks
    Paul

I have used http://www.pcinspector.de/Sites/file_recovery/info.htm?language=1 in the past to recover pictures accidentally deleted off a memory card. Not sure if it would work with a corrupt card or not, but worth a try. It's free too.

Eeek, I've had that happen a number of times over the years - tried everything but had to format the card everytime.

    Best of luck with it.

    I found this - http://www.z-a-recovery.com/data-recovery-forum/archive/index.php/t-209.html

The post from afn04644 might be worth a shot:
    2. Removed card from camera and inserted into card reader.

    3. Connected reader to laptop via USB cable. What… what… you don’t bring your laptop with you on vacation?

    4. Windows will recognize the card and assign it a drive letter.

    5. Run Windows Scandisk
    a. Right click on the new drive letter and select “Properties” at the bottom.
    b. Select the “Tools” tab.
    c. Click “Check Now…” button from Error-checking.
    d. Check “Automatically fix file system errors”.
    e. Check “Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors”.
    f. Click “Start”.

    6. Windows will recover a bunch of temp files. “FILE0001, FILE0002...”.

    7. Copy those to your hard drive in a new folder on your desktop.

    8. Rename or add the extension “.jpg” to each one and double click.

I have lost images in the past due to this problem but they were not worth fussing over so did the format thing. Sounds like yours are more valuable. The problem I had was that the Card was not recognised by the computer.

Doind a search I found This advice which may help.
