Anyone visited Huntingdon castle in Carlow. Last year on a family holiday we did and both my husband and eldest girl(11) had unusual experiences both inside and outside the castle. Very intersting tour by the owner with a personal history of both the human and ghostly stories. Wonder has any of you had experiences there...I'd recommend a visit.

yeah, I've heard its hard to get in there. As in they wont let you full stop, that makes it even more appealing IMO.

My grandfather lives in Clonegal and does a tonne of writing for local papers etc., but as a nipper we used to down in the Summer and he'd pass the hours away telling us ghost stories about the castle.

He actually put in the first electrical wiring back in the day and saw some ghostly goings on on many an occasion.

If you want to have a wander about the castle grounds etc. you can always come to the Solas Festival (16th & 17th August). I'm organising the healing area for it. Should be a good weekend and you boys can satisfy a few investigational needs while you're there.
It certainly is a beautiful location. The whole place looks a bit like something out of a fairytale.

Nothin stopping you coming as festival punters. You wont get into the castle but there's some pretty decent acts coming to keep you busy.

I don't know about ghost hunters but ordinary tourists are welcome and as I mentioned earlier, the owner gave a full tour including mentioning all the ghosts. She talked about a bedroom which she showed us where a bishop spent some years. The picture on the wall is supposed to change to show his face and she has slept in the room and woken to see bright, I suppose orbs, floating across the room. As we left the room both my husband and my 11 year old distinctly heard the little piano playing ...I didn't, mind you although downstairs I did hear music but couldn't identify it's source. Outside the same two members of the family heard a heavy groan beside them when no one was around and at the same time my daughter saw a figure run behind a parked car...she went to check it out but again no one was there. There just two stories but certainly I'd say the place would be great to investigate. The owner said some English tv co. made some film on haunted castles and came there but she said they exagerrated aspects of the stories ...I mentioned they should be on Most Haunted and she seemed quite enthusiastic about it...I'm surprised she's not open to an investigation.

Well if your heading down that direction, I can fill you in on where he lives. He's used to having people from all over the place call in on him, what with being a bit of a local historian. He also writes for 3 of the regional papers in the area.
