The Black Affair is Steve Mason, most commonly know for his work with The Beta Band. They split up in 2004, a big disappointment for fans of genuinely progressive British music. The group's mix of folk, hip-hop and 60s pop was consistently enthralling and earned them an army loyal fans but that was then and this is now and Steve is back with his new project The Black Affair.

Dark and at times claustrophobic electronics dominate the album, yet it also maintains a strong sense of melody, sounding something like a collaboration between Neon Neon & Cabaret Voltaire! This soundscape is forged by the fantastic producer and solo artist Jimmy Edgar.
Who's debut album Colour Strip on Warp Records is still a huge favourite around these parts.

The Black Affair came about when Steve (Also behind King Biscuit Time) was at work in his studio, writing songs about obsession, documenting the beginning and end of a relationship, and rediscovering his teenage love for early house music and electro, The results became Pleasure Pressure Point and the Black Affair was born.

There are so many influences on the album, Prince, KLF, Talking Heads, Frankie Knuckles, John Carpenter, Davy DMX, Kraftwerk, Primal Scream that you'd imagine it would be hard to give The Black Affair its own identity but Steve's voice over all these influences seems to make everything make sense.

Great Lakes is new to the Irish live scene. Having received rave reviews for his support of Jape on his recent tour (as well as being occasional drummer) previous of his debut EP have been met with fantastic feedback and we hope to hear a lot more from him later in the year 2008.

Also DJing on the night is Stephen Reynolds, widely regarded as one of the best and most versatile DJs in the country. Steve DJs (with Jon Averill) as the Shock DJs who will be playing 7-8pm in the Bodytonic area (tent tbc)
