Flying with baby

We had our first child a month ago and are now thinking of getting a bit of sun later in the year.
Is it OK for a baby to fly at say 4 or 5 months and if so what's the furthest you'd go?
Also should very hot countries be avoided....how does the heat affect the baby?

We flew with our son when he was 5 months old to Majorca. There wasn't a bother on him. We went to Australia last year with him when he was 1 1/2. so . At that age it's grand because they can't walk so you don't have to chase them around the place.

Regarding the sun keep them well covered with sunblock and out of the sun in the shade if possibel

    Thanks for that...
Even in the shade would the heat make them anyways cranky?
Also is the pressure on their ears during the flight anyways dangerous or agitating to them?

My son first flew to Canada when he was about 7 weeks old, no problem he slept though the whole flight. He has been back about 3/4 times since and the flying never bothers him he is 8 months now.

We asked the Doctor before the first time about his ears and stuff and he said there would be no problem.

You can get a little sun tent in argos, smyths, etc for them to shelter in. I was in Barbados last year and there was a couple with a 7 week old baby there, it was awful. The poor baby was in bits with the heat and the parents themselves could hardly stand it. They hardly left the hotel at all and said even during the night the baby woke up every hour. So i think the caribbean is too hot!

You should also bare in mind at that age lots of babies are teething. Definitely keep him in the shade, the heat will make him cranky. As regards his ears during a flight give him a dummy to suck. To be honest there's no way I'd do it. Can't you leave him with some family for a week while you have a break. He must be a very content and sleepy baby if you're even considering it.;)

Had half a mind to return to Thailand but I'd say that would be too extreme and I'd be thinking a bite from a mosquito would irritate a baby no end...can barely stand the bites myself.
The likes of Spain or Italy should be fine though???

Yeah, she seems to be fairly content, going on the little I know about babies.
Why to you say "there is no way you'd do it"?

Italy or Spain is no problem, I flew all through the first year of my son's life back and forth to Germany, Spain, Italy and France. Just make sure you have a bottle or soother for take off and landing while on the plane. Pack him in sunscreen, make sure he has plenty to drink and keep him in the shade. The airport itself can be a bit of a nightmare so pack light for the cabin (but enough in case of delays) and put as much into checked-on luggage as possible.

We recently took our son to Singapore, when he was 3 months old. After the transit in Paris, it was about a 12 hour flight. He was grand, slept the majority of the way. No problems at all.

If you're breast feeding, at little tip is to give your baby a feed during take off and landing. I'm guessing it helps the ear-popping pain, since our son didn't make a sound (thank God!). Probably the same with bottles though.

All the best, and enjoy your hol!
