I am going to order a new desktop from komplett next week and just wanted opinions on the following two specs. I will be using the computer in my home office for work and also for photo editing and gaming.
Should I consider core 2 duo or stay with the quad ?, I need the pc to last for a few years

It depends on the screen you have. If you have a standard 17/19" monitor go with the first one. Same with if you are only a moderate gamer.

If you have a bigger screen and play alot of newer games go with the second one. Dont worry about adding in a x-fi sound card to the second, i just moved from a x-fi to realtek HD onboard sound and i cant tell the difference at all. Onboard sound really has got better over the last few years.

The monitor I was going to add is the Samsung 26" LCD Syncmaster T260, 1920x1200, DVI/VGA/HDMI, 20000:1, 5ms

Then if your gaming get the one with the 9800gtx. If not get the other one.
