    From the front: Meh
    From the 3/4 view: Eugh.

Still, it's nicer than an X3. I do enjoy laughing at X3 drivers.

Overall, definately, it looks like a concept. There's something not quite right about the rear though.

Don't like the front but the black one looks nice from the rear. Go with the black one.

I thought about this today actually. I was wondering how there seemed to be no discussion about this car on here... best reason I could come up with is because there are so many Bimmer fans here that they are embarrassed that BM have turfed out such an ugly car.

For me it is a definate NO... and I'm not a BMW hater by the way! ;)

I think color can be a big factor on making or breaking this car.
Black,Silver or white make these,Anything else doesnt really crack it for me.
I think its a love it or hate it car and I love it.

Looks like it was designed by a five-year-old.

Not cuppa tea, when it was first being talked about, they were saying it was going to be competing with the RR Sport, but am i right in saying it's near the 100k mark for one new?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,002 ✭✭✭Cionád

Hideous motor. Not a fan of the X3 or X5 but even they look a hell of a lot better than these things. It truly rivals the Ssangyong for beauty.

You would want to be throwing the entire cast of a Playboy calendar at this thing for it to look anyway decent.

    Also, lol at SAC!

    peasant +1

I have actually gone completly off BMW styling. Nicest BMW IMO is the old coupe E46 (I think).. all the new cars look like korean cars...nothing against them at all.. but they have absolutely no flair, style or presence on the road. Bland bland bland.. Can DO SOO much better..look at the C class.

    Alfa is the new BMW...IMO

edit The X5 is the nicest of the current range.

Only if its a dark and foggy night so nobody can see what your driving. 100 big massive ones, i can seriously spend that better, and come away with more respect on the roads.
But somebody obviously likes them, ive see 3.
Me thinks it might be the badge. Hopefully its a really special car to make up for those looks!
I like the BM's that one they chopped the designers head off while he was still drawing the car

There is one guy who likes it though :D

In last years thread, E92 our resident BMW public relations person had the following to say:
Perhaps ye're all seeing something different to me, because the X6 looks fantastic to me. It looks like a BMW, something I haven't been able to say in years. BMW have churned out awful looking cars in recent times; the E60/61 5 series, the 6 series which is based on the 5 series, the even worse looking Z4 and X3, and the mother and father of hideous BMWs the 7 series.

BMW have gone back to their good old ways, first with the current 3 series, then the new X5, and now this X6. It seems to me like the worst years of BMW are finally coming to an end.

And Peasant, the Ssangyong reminds me of those badly done Ferrari replicas, it looks like one at 100 yards blurred, but get closer and closer and its nothing like the real thing.

I voted yes. Maybe I'll see it in the flesh and not like it, but I think it's a really brave design. I didn't like a lot of what Bangle did, but this seems like a natural progression.

    I wonder how it'll age.

It's also brave to walk down Grafton Street with a pair of dirty y-fronts on your head, but you'll still look a plonker! :D;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,002 ✭✭✭Cionád

The X5 is the nicest of the current range.

If by current range you mean from the X series then yeah I agree. If by the current range you mean all BMW's, you crazy!

    I like it - I don't love it but I like it.

And before anyone else bashes BMW styling, have a look at this pic .. does any one see the BMW style rip offs here ?
Bangle might be a) bonkers or more likley b) miles ahead of his time.

    BMW likeness

Imitation is after all the best form of flatery

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,819 ✭✭✭✭peasant

I've seen a few in the flesh now. Never mind the design ..but the sheer size of it is just ridiculous. Something that big just can not, never, ever be a coupe ...it just doesn't work.

In my mind the X6 says "more money than sense" louder and clearer than any other car.

The answer to a question nobody asked.

Styling is very take it or leave it - so its a no from me but the driving reviews have so far been excellent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,470 ✭✭✭JoeA3

Saw one of these in the flesh this morning... it made me look twice, and not in a good way! Not a fan of these ostentatious flash-harry SUV's anyway but that one takes the chocolate digestive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 66,130 ✭✭✭✭unkel
    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Saw a few in the flesh recently and I was surprised that I didn't hate the looks of them. That said, all SUVs are fugly with the possible exception of the Range Rover (Sport), which of course still is ugly just because it exists

I think it's ok from the front but it looks like a dog with his arse in the air from behind.. for some very attractive but imo it's gank

Was behind one last week. Looks ok till you get close then you realize its massive. Its like a van at the back. Might make sense somewhere like the US. But looks a bit too big here.

What peasant didn't tell you is that I started this thread more recently;).

Let's see what I had to say here, eh peasant:p?
    E92 wrote: »
Worse than that, but BMW now wants to make a cheaper X6...it will be called the X4 and as with the X6 being based on the X5, the X4 will be based on the next generation X3.

BMW should remember that their cars are supposed to be "The Ultimate Driving Machine" not providers of transport to yummy mummies:(!

What is the point of a supposed Coupé on stilts that can go off road, which isn't even a proper Coupé as it has 4 door?

If you want an SUV with a BMW badge, BMW already provides you with 2 choices, the X3 and X5, we certainly don't need another(though 40,000 fools disagree with me, but you know what they say about fools and their money.....), next we'll have an X1 and now worse is the fact that they want to build an X6 type thing based on the next generation X3.

    Story here.

I do think the X6 looks like a BMW, and I do like the look of it. I also think it is completely and utterly pointless.

    Noooooo..........

Another pup like the 1 series and the X3, Z4. I could go on.

Or "more money than taste" along with "I couldn't afford the Cayenne to prove my point, but now BMW have given me a means".
It's chronic, pointless and expensive. That's a rare enough combination.

It may be pointless, nearing the ugly'ish and quite expensive...yet Beemers are everywhere so this is going to stand out (good or bad don't know?)

Horrible looking imo. Absolutely hate it. Came up behind one on the road a few weeks back and my first thought was that someone had put a really crap body kit on something...

I got to test drive the 3.5d and was very impressed. It is more car like to drive than the X5 .Will be deciding between the two when changing car in the new year.

    No 3.5 litre diesel, it's a 3 litre.
What's the obsession with "more like a car to drive" thing? If that's a good thing then buy a car, they're very like a car to drive! :)

I've seen one in St. Green shopping centre car park... absolutely MASSIVE!! :pac: the thing could barely fit into the parking slot! but I really like the design, as for the new X5. The X3, on the other hand, is a complete desaster.
