Damaged CDs

I must be a bit technically challenged as I wrote on my CD's with a special CD marker and only realised when I tried to access the files on them that I wrote on the wrong side and damaged the CD's. The files are really important to me and I'm seeking information on whether I can retrieve them or not. I would appreciate some useful tips as I said I would really like to keep the files as they are important.

Try ISOBuster if the cd can be picked up by windows

Try using rubbing alcohol with a soft rag. Don't use anything abrasive as it will actually damage the surface.

Edit: Didn't read the question right, go to a Virgin or computer store and buy a CD resurfacer. They cost about $20 in the states not sure how much they are here. Well worth it.

I heard tooth paste works as well.

Eh.... most toothpaste is abrasive so that would be a no no...

try some alcohol wipes as suggested above - the likes you find in first aid kits etc. will do fine

Tissue and a can of Lynx. A quick spray & rub should do the trick.
I'll admit though, I never wrote on the wrong side of a cdr.

Also, +2 to ISOBuster here too.
