Are we mad to only get a DJ for the wedding reception and not the conventional band and DJ?
If we arent then does anybody know of a DJ in the Roscommon area that you would reccomend (no self advertising:D). As its for the whole reception they would have to do some games, first dance, etc. and a bit of crowd interraction aswell.

Don't know any Roscommon DJs but of course you aren't mad to just get a DJ. You do what you want, it's your party!

Not at all - a good few people only have a DJ (much better than the risk of a seriously cheesy band!). If you have a late bar organised, they'll probably be on for an extra couple of hours at least, which you'll have to negotiate.

Our DJ was excellent, and the company says they are nationwide (link).

yes dj can work... why not get an magician or even some irish dancers....or a surprise artist like perhaps a elvis impressionator.... just a novely act..

short answer...no :) i'd be happy to be a guest at your wedding if there wasn't your typical band playing..a good dj can be better than a live band sometimes if they have the right personality.

As I have said before in another thread, YOUR wedding is YOUR day, do it how you want. It is going to be the happiest day of your life, (hopefully) and you will want to remember it for the rest of your life. In the UK we don't really have bands and plenty of people have a DJ.

Congratulations to you both anyway OP! :D

The thing with a DJ is that you can make a list of songs you want AND the ones you don't! I played lady in red at a wedding one time, and a lady rushed up to me and asked me to change it. It was the favourite song of a family member who had passed away a few days before. Another time I was asked not to play my first. my last, my everything as it was the bride's tune when she was in a previous relationship.
