Films about New York City

I know the list of films about what could be argued is the capital of the world is endless but are there any that really stand out for people here?

I was in NY recently and would love to see some films that'll remind me of places I saw there. I'd love to watch the film and suddenly say "I walked past that place!".

Stupid and all as that may sound it'd be interesting from my point of view anyway.

    Any suggestions?

Alot of Woody Allen: the superb Manhattan probably being his love letter to the city.

NYPD Blue... not a movie but always reminds me of my time there. It just seems 'real'.

Not an absolutely classic, but Die Hard 3 covers a lot of ground in New York. Watched it with my brother after he came back from there and he kept point out stuff "thats where i used to eat lunch, thats where i pulled such and such, etc etc"

The first New York film I saw after visiting was I Am Legend. Really added a new element to it going "ooh I was there...and there...and there".

If you're willing to branch into TV, check out the Law & Order series which is filmed on the streets of NYC (Manhattan for the most part).

Fame, all those mid to late 80's yuppy films like working girl, secret of my success etc, Taxi Driver - saw Taxi Driver in sunshine cinemas down on Houston and walking back to my apartment passed a bunch of locations in the movie. Of course it's all changed now, every since Giuliani cleaned up all the porn out of time square and made it all family fun pg13 rating.

Moonstruck, Crooklyn, Summer of Sam are worth checking out as they venture out of manhatten which is something alot of tourists never do and despite scare stories The Bronx is actually really nice [Brooklyn has its moments but is infested with hipsters]

A lot of political/important meetings take place round Battery Park overlooking the Statue of Liberty, I've seen it pop up in lots of films now.

Here are some listed - http://www.movielocationsguide.com/movie_location_maps/New_York_Filming_Locations.php

Manhattanis featured so often in movies too!

Kids gives some good shots of Manhattan, scenes on the streets as opposed to shots of the skyline.

    Sounds good lads.

Films, tv series or whatever can be mentioned if ye have the time to say them out.

I've seen Law and Order a few times...used to air on TV3 right?

    How about Seinfeld?

A bit off topic, but if you get Gran Turismo 4 on the PS2, you can drive through New York....it's pretty amazing! :)

all those shows like Friends, Seinfeld, and will and grace aren't great for showing new york as they are mainly shot in LA with some stock footage of various new york landscapes. All the Law and Orders are shot in new york.

Not a film or tv show but it was shot down the street from my friends apartment:

They run through McCarren Park which is a fab area of brooklyn if we could just rid it of all the hipsters.

Check out Vanilla Sky. Lot's of New York there including a completely deserted Times Square at the very start.
