Archive and install from internal HD?

I had power supply issues with my iMac G5 a few months back and since then the computer has become slow, erratic and generally unusable. Once it restarted itself randomly, windows become active and inactive randomly etc.

I read that an archive and install would solve the problem so I took out my install dvd of Leopard and popped it into the SuperDrive, which rumbled for a while before spitting the dvd back out. I have tried numerous times to get it going and have zapped my PRAM.

In the end it just won't read the dvd and I can't archive and install.

So, is it possible to have a .dmg of Leopard on the internal hard drive and use that to do the archive and install or would I have to use an external firewire hard drive?

There probably is but I'm willing to bet its rediculously complicated, your probably better getting a new installer disk, even if its a copy if you own leopard I dont see what the problem would be.

Are other cd/dvds okay? Is the Install disc scratched or damaged?

The dvd is fine. Other cds and dvds work ok on the drive. It won't burn a dvd or cd for **** though.

I did a bit of reading around and it seems like connecting another computer or external fire wire dvd drive and doing it from them seems like the only way to the archive and install.
