iBook Problem

my normally ultra reliable iBook looks like its given up the ghost...

my GFs sister was watching a DVD without it being plugged in..she then put the charger in and it hasnt turned on since..
The orange light is on showing that the power is going to the computer - just wont turn on..

so i have a couple of questions..

any way of getting the DVD out of the slot-loading drive without the power?
has anyone seen this happen before..

and does anyone know a good mac repair place, if all else fails, in Dublin?

i'd hate to be condemned to a life of XP

Does taking the battery out and replacing it have any effect? Or just holding the power button for several seconds? It's possible it's just stuck in sleep mode.

Re: the disc, have a look and see if there's a manual eject hole on the side of the drive, if so you can use a paper clip to force the dvd out. Not all ibooks have them though.

i checked for the manual eject and i couldnt find one.
I have also tried the battery out / in trick as well as the holding the button down for a period of about 15 seconds.

The amber light never turns to green on the power chord, which it normally does when its charging correctly...

    any more ideas?

What model of iBook is it? How old? Logic board might be f**ked.

Is there any sign of life when you press the power button? Dead?

Also have you tried leaving the battery out altogether and just connecting to the mains?

Go to the apple.com support site and see how to rest the PMU for your particular model iBook.
