Night Sky in Cork

Took these last night near to Cork City. Unforunately I did not have my tripod with me so lost a few to blurring. Other than cropping them, I have not touched them with Adobe PS, Cannon 400D Sigma DG 70-300 lens used.

Is there anything more I could do to improve them? C&C welcome.

    Cheers.

I would say first off, the tripod is a must for that time of day. The images look particularly noisy, the iso seems pretty high. What you could have done was (tripod permitting) take bracketed exposures and blend them in PS in order to get definition in the under exposed foreground. Or use filters.
The colours look as if the contrast has been put through the roof so maybe lower that in your in-camera settings.

    Thanks.

The ISO was 400, but as you say, the tripod was needed. However it was an amazing sky so I took a chance. Will play with them in PS.

1st one is good nice balance between the foreground and background! Composition is nice it rises up to the right!

2nd has a bit to much foreground

3rd has no foreground so its not doing anything for me!

The sky is nice though, play with them in PS and post back up some!!

Half of Munster must have been out with cameras that evening - here's one of mine (taken in Glounthaune for those who care).

I love photos 1 & 3. The first has a nice contrast between foreground and sky, however I prefer the sky in photo 3 as it's more zoomed, its bigger, it's more dramatic. Photo 3 really looks like the sky is on fire. shame there's no foreground with it for contrast. as dazftw said; PS

If you head towards Carrigtwohill and up the back roads a bit sunsets are easier, as the lights from Cork are mostly hidden behind the hills. Alternatively heading out the Mallow Road a bit does the same trick, but you have to go further out. Going west obviously puts the city lights behind you.

Unfortunately the foreground came out blurred, thus the crop. I have the originals (uncropped) so I will have a play with PS & see what can be done.
