Hey, haven't posted in ages, ain't been shooting much either, but anyway, i've got myself a bit'o spendin money, and i'd like to get a fast lens, mid price ranged, like 200-350 euro maybe, for portraits, zoom isn't necessary.
It's for an Olympus E-500. Maybe a bit wide angled, Cause atm i only have the kit lenses, which are
    ZUIKO Digital 17.5 - 45 mm F3.5 - F5.6
    (35 - 90 mm equiv. FOV, 2.6x zoom)

    and
    ZUIKO Digital 18 - 180 mm F3.5 - F6.3
    (36 - 360 mm equiv. FOV, 10.0x zoom)

SO, maybe F 2.0 would be great, but that's prob a bit ambitious with that price range.

    Any Advice lads?

I have no hostory with using olympus so this is just an ebay search and lenses that you kinda want and in your range
http://cgi.ebay.ie/BRAND-NEW-OLYMPUS-50MM-F2-MACRO-LENS-IN-SCOTLAND_W0QQitemZ140249017301QQihZ004QQcategoryZ30070QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem 50mm f/2 macro (100mm might be good for portraits)

    http://cgi.ebay.ie/OLYMPUS-OM-SYSTEM-ZUIKO-AUTO-W-28mm-1-2-8-LENS_W0QQitemZ280246289291QQihZ018QQcategoryZ3344QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Or a 28mm f/2.8

They and lenses that will do good portraits at they let in lots of light and produce good dof
But you're best off waiting for another Olympus head to come on they'll put you on the right path :pac:

    Here's a good price on the 50mmF2
and it's an outstanding lens by all accounts.

Somebody else mentioned an OM lens, if you take that option you will need an OM to 4/3's adaptor and manually focus but if you do it's a lot of fun!

Also you could get the 14-54 F2.8-3.5 via that link I sent you and have a good protrait lens with a wider angle and weather sealing and replace your kit lens. 14-54

Whoops, I should've checked your link before posting :o

The OM lens will work, but with an adaptor. The digital system was designed from scratch so the mount is different

Most people working in camera shops* are like most people working in IT shops, they have no idea what the hell is going on, and will probably try to convince you to buy a canon L lens or something.

    *not shops like gunns/etc

I think in the handful of shops where he'll find Olympus lenses like the ones he's looking at* he'll find that the staff do know what is going on.

*not Gunns as they don't stock Olympus

I have played with this lens and I want one. Its 100% my next lens purchase. I would be interested to hear how you get on if you decide to get one. Im an E410 user and I love my camera.

There are some sample images here that I think show off what it can do:

I'm also an E410 user, it's a great little camera.

I have taken a different approach to getting faster lenses, I got a great zoom (the 12-60) and since I had some OM lenses from my film Olympus I put them on the body and play with manual focus.

The 30mm F1.4 does look like a godo lens though, but for me, if money was no object I'd be after this instead!! http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/484209-REG/Panasonic_L_X025_25mm_f_1_4_Leica_D.html
