Do you mean downloads or just programs that you install or everything?

    You cant do this.

You can move the programs files directory or windows directory, but you cannot have two of either. Programs that you install 99.99% of the time give you an option of where to save the files, change to the new drive in this case.

you can clone the disk if the second is larger, or delete programs to make space. thats about it

You could cut/paste all your Music Files to a new directory on your E: drive (I say this because typically MP3 files can be 2-7MB for each song), also with Word/Excel there are default 'Save As' locations that you could modify to point at another folder on your E: drive.

In summary, basically use your C: drive for your Applications, and remove all personal files and place on E: drive.

Could you provide a list of the Applications/Software you use?

Your laptop probably doesnt have 2 separate drives, its one drive, which has been divided (or 'partitioned') into two.

You can join the two partitions together if you like, it will simply get rid of the E: drive and the C: drive will appear to be around 80Gb or thereabouts.

Or, you can do as suggested, and use the C: drive for programs, and the E: drive for 'files' (music, pictures, downloads, movies). This is what most people do.

Its important that before you do any messing with your hard-drives, that you have a backup of all important files. Most people don't realise how important this is until it's too late.

if you want all your programs to install to the other harddrive by default then change the following registry file.

start -> run -> type 'regedit' and press ok.

    browse to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\

after clicking on currentversion you should see an entry on the right called "ProgramFilesDir"

double click this and change the directory to the new harddrive and you should be good to go.

    hope this helps

I'd be worried that might break certain software...

it wont break anything. All that edit does is change the install directory.
All the programs that are already installed will stay where they are and all the links will remain unchanged.

it will only effect the programs to be installed after you make the change.

ive made this change on my laptop over a year ago and have not experienced any issues.
