[Req] Rising Up Through City Life Films

    Hi All,

I’ve recently been watching black and white films like James Cagney in “The Roaring Twenties” and Burt Lancaster in “Sweet Smell of Success”. What makes these films so appealing for me is that they involve elements of people rising their way up through city life through social networking, being “in the know” and developing/maintaining a position of power. I believe this is also an element of what has made shows like Dallas and even Sex in the City so appealing to their viewers in more recent years.

I’m now looking to compile a list of films that involve such themes, preferably (but not necessarily) in black and white.

Possibly a hard question, but all recommendations will be welcome.

    Thanks In Advance

Any of Cagney's early ones. Got a great boxset in HMV a while back, had The Public Enemy, The Roaring 20s, White Heat, and Angels with dirty faces. All Classics!
